Congrats!
Change your oil often because the main crankshaft bearings like to go if you don't keep them supplied with fresh oil. I like to use slightly thicker 40wt oil like Amsoils 0w40 Powersports Oil. Change it every 600 miles if you want to be a good boy and every 1000 miles if you're lazy.

First oil change is 600 miles or 100 km. After that? Well, I keep it at the same intervals.

First oil change is 600 miles or 100 km. I believe that's ".....or 1000 km". Regarding the first one...yeah 600 miles is fine. The sooner the better though because you're just getting the metal particles out sooner which is always a good thing. Switch to synthetic oil anytime after 1000miles.

That's what I get for trying to state metrics, as we all know it's the tool of the devil.

Nice to hear you've got your Ruck on the way. The oil is easy and the owners manual does a good job of explaining how to do it. You can use any 10w40 oil....it doesn't need to be a motorcycle oil because we don't have a wet clutch. For you first coil change I'd do it pretty soon (ie. 100kms) and then at around 1000kms I'd change it for the 2nd time and switch to synthetic oil then. The Honda oil is decent but it's pricey. For the money you're better off buying Mobil 1 or Amsoil 0w40 Powersports oil.

If you look, it's either in the how-to or the maintenence section, someone scanned the pages from the manual.

I just emptied the old oil from my ruckus and I wanted to make sure I bought a good kind of oil before filling it up. It's Castrol "grand prix" 4 stroke for motorcycles (10w40). I know motorcycle oil isn't the best for the ruckus because of the wet clutch thing, but it's the best thing I could find at my canadian tire that wasn't synthetic. Is this good oil? thanks.

Thanks. I was going to chose either normal castrol or the motorcycle one, and I decided to take the motorcycle one cause it's for 4 stroke engines and is ideal for high reving.

i hear a lot of advices to do the first change at 600 mi, but from my experience, when i changed it at 30 miles, it was black as... hmmm... as my ruckus' frame paint, and had all kinds of stuff in it. it was nasty! the next oil change i did at 100, and it was still nasty with all kinds of sludge and metal particles. so... do whatever you think is right, but i know i wouldn't want to ride 500 miles with all that dirt in my engine.

First oil change is 600 miles or 100 km. After that? Well, I keep it at the same intervals. Does that mean you change the oil every 600 miles? The manual says to change it at the first 600 and then every 2500 after that right? Should i change it more often than that , how often do people usually change it? thanks for the info

This is 'my opinion" so if you do it different is OK. The idea is to perform the first oil change at 100 miles and then do it every 600 miles, i know the manual say to do it at a longer interval, but we have experience some problems with the main bearing, so do it more often seems like a good idea, the oiling system on our engines provides pressurized oil only to the head, the main bearing relay on what is called an oil bath, they have roller bearings partially cover by the oil on the sump, so as the bearings rotate they get coated on oil and get their lubrication, that way, and is a very good oiling systems, as long as the oil is clean and is fresh, as the oil wear down, it starts breaking down and lubricate less, also it can contain carbon particles that are not being filtered, so the act like a nice grinding paste, but the most damaging part is that sometimes the oil gets contaminated with gas, from running a cold engine and only do short trips, so the gas wash out the lubricant exposing the non oil covered part of the bearing (when the engine is off) to rust and that leads to bearing failure. So, to prevent engine failure due to bearing trouble; avoid letting a cold engine idle for too long, avoid short trips (less than a mile), at least every two weeks take the scooter for long trips (at least 15 minutes) so the gas in the oil can vaporize and be suck into the engine by the PCV system to be burn, and change the oil often, 600 miles or a 1000kms (by observation from Kamino ) seems like a good interval
