I went to my Honda dealer today to get a filter & plug & the guy at the parts counter told me to put a trickle charger on my battery if it sits for more than 2 weeks. Is this true?
Thanks, Rob

I think for only 2 week, is OK to leave it alone, but two month would require a trickle charger, I just do weekend rides

Yeah 2 weeks is pretty minor. I'd only use one if it was leaving it in the arctic for 2 weeks.

I have an 07 and took the cover off to see what's there .. and to give the battery a charge just for the heck of it ..
The battery is a sealed battery. You can't add acid/water to it.

Both the Ruckus and Big Ruckus use AGM batteries. That's the term for Absorbed Glass Mat. The electorlyte is suspended in the porus glass mat between the plates of the battery. It takes a different charger than a fluid filled battery that is the old style battery. They often leaked; so the AGM battery was developed.
You need to buy a charger called a, "Smart Battery" charger. Make sure it's the type for an, AGM battery. I found mine on feeBay for about $42 including shipping. I keep it in my saddlebag and charge up my battery at least once a month; all year round. If you do this; you will get the most life out of your battery.
You can get a nice two pole connector to permanetly leave on your battery to facilitate charging. I did an EXTREME modification to my Big Ruckus; which, is shown on the totalruckus.com board. Won't waste bandwidth with photos and articles, here. If you are interested; PM me and I'll send you seperate info on how to do that. I run two batteries on it.
Regular, Battery Tenders are not designed for AGM batteries.

I left my ruckus at the cottage for the season (until xmas break). Is it ok that I left the battery connected? I know I'm suposed to take it out but I didn't have the time like I expected because everyone was in a hurry to leave this morning. Is it ok, and what harm can it do?

Wow that would be so cool to install that solor panel on the front of the ruckus. Then I could play my sterio all night without haveing to wory about a dead battery, plus if you battery is to low your alarm system will malfunction. So you would not need to add another battery just that panel if its a 12 volt. It would work great here in hawaii, "edit profanity" you would probly not need an alternator if you had that............lol chris
