Hey, my ruck is almoust at the 1000km mark, so we have the maintence appointment made for june sixth. But thats in a while. I purchases a litre of pro honda HP4M, which is synthetic/petroleum blend with moly. I got it from the place i got the ruckus, and they said that at 950kms ide be ok do the switch over.
but ive been reading on here that you should wait a good 1-3 thousand kms before switching to a synthetic oil. My scooter is running pretty slugishley and i want to change the oil before the maintence beacuse i am prety shure they over filled the oil, and by the time June 6th rolls around there will be more than 1000 kms on it. And i love this thing to death and want to treat it the best. So i am wondering if beacuse there is still some petroleum in it will it still continue to break in the motor?
so the main question is I am asking is it ok to change the oil with this new blend? Would you? I just purchased a nice torque wrench and i am dieing to use it.
Thank you, all your imput is greatly appreasheated.

Id wait till at least 2K km's to switch over to fully synthetic. From what i remember, you need the petroleum oil to break in the rings on the cylinder properly something along those lines, and scratching up the cylinder walls slightly so oil can lubricate the cylinder Moral of the story hold off on the synthetic until about 2K km's And i wouldnt switch it over just yet

If you did a normal break in, the rings should be seated properly by now, however i would wait until the second oil change to be safe, get a quart of good regular oil and do your oil change, i recommend to do the first oil change at 1000 kilometers or 600 miles and at the same interval after that, because we do not have a proper oil filter (just a screen), the 600 mile oil change seems like a smart option, and using that shiny new torque wrench is a great way to tighten your drain bolt right ;D

I'm the minority so I'll just quietly share by opinion....I think it's fine to go full synth after 1000kms. Not only are today's engines so precise the wear is almost nothing but it's 99% done by 200kms. It definately doesn't hurt to wait longer but keep in mind that a lot of new high performace engines ie Corvette, Porsche, Ferrari come from the factory with full synth and the only break in they get is like 5 min on the dyno.

If you believe that i have a bridge to sell overlooking the port, factory breaking in methods are very precise and use what is call a programed pull (most engines require three very diferent pulls) normally they will start the engine and get it to a set rpm for about 5 min, then they shut it off, let it cool check for leaks and then run it for about 20 minutes at diferent speeds and with some set rates of accel and deccel, then they cool off the engine and do some more pulls again, normally they use a single weight petroleum base oil as it is the best oil for hydrodynamic as it is very stable under pressure, and since they do not have to worry about carbon or byproducts as it will be change right after, it makes perfect sense However most people want to believe that going synthetic will give instant benefits, i guess is the same as putting higher octane gas, hard to beat the placebo effect

It does make you go faster. The extra cost means less money. Less money means less weight. Less weight, well, you know the rest.

Because I change my oil every 1000km's, I just use good regular base oil cause for one I can monitor my oil level and see if anything has changed since the last oil change. 2) Though my oil levels don't seem to go up, I'm still getting that gas smell in my oil, go fiqure. Now how about a propaned powered ruckus, the oil would stay cleaner for a longer period of time.

yeah i just changed it with some 4 stroke oil that met the requirements. its running better, and the oil was quite dirty. I plan on changeing my oil every 1000kms beacuse it will be really easy to remember.
the oil change was so convient and fast, no need for a jack or an oil filter makes it alot easier and i can do it on my back padio.

It's crazy how dirty the oil gets...it's black after 1000 miles.
A propane Ruckus would be a novelty but dang that'd be slow.

Huh, on the scoot I just sold to upgrade I was changing the oil every 250-300 km or so. I guess i was a little over zealous

You sold your ruckus? that is sad but is a lot better to change your oil often than due it seldom

It depends how often yours driving it. For me every 300kms is twice a week which isn't feasible.
Wonderslicer, did you 'upgrade' to a new Ruckus or a bigger bike?
