Does the stock air filter allow water in if you get caught in the rain? If so does this cause any damage and what can I do about it? I always carry a rain suit but I want to know if I need to worry about the Ruck as well.

When I was going to school, I rode to class rain or shine on the Ruckus. I only left her home if there was ice. I never had no problems.

Katrina is the name of Chanito's scooter. He meant so say '...I ride Katrina a lot...'
I'm in school for Environmental Studies.

i've riden the ruckus to the train station rain or shine. i've been in downpours and she's fine.
the wheels do slide like any other vehicle when the rain first starts. i've locked up my rear wheel a few times.

Hey, I haven't seen your ruk at the Stamford station in a while. Whats up with that?
Also, did you get my PM for a CT group ride?

WOW! I sure got caught in the rain on the way home from work today! It was obvious that all the weather reports were wrong because there were 2-wheelers everywhere getting drenched. I always pack a rain suit so it wasn't too bad but those big drops sting a little at 40mph. I had to take it easy in the turns because it felt like the front wheel was loosing traction on the wet streets. Is this pretty normal for stock tires?

I never really felt a loss of traction much in a heavy downpour, unless you get on the painted lines on the road or something like that.
Do you ride leaned back with your weight?

I'm 6 feet tall so I sit all the way back on the seat. I'll have to remember that next time. I can sit further forward, its just not as comfortable. I'd rather be a little uncomfortable and be safer.

when slipper never use your front brakes! if it locks up its scary as hell, especially if you go 40mph, its lethal :S

Yeah, keep off the front brake in slippery conditions. Brake early with the rear.

These guys know, and do not forget to shift your weight forward before the turns, i just slide myself forward when i aproach a turn and then slide back after, because i also ride sitting all the way back I carry a rain poncho with me, but usually i wear it when i am already wet

Yeah, when I rode in rain, I usually road with my feet flat on the floorboard and hunched forward (because I was cold, and to improve the airflow to get less rain on me)

I find pegs really help in the rain, they get your weight more centered on the bike, and everything works out better....

Pegs are nice because they give you a wider stance which is nice and stable but they also move your legs a bit farther back which makes the rear wheel weight bias even more extreme. If you're going to be cornering agressively you really need to get your body forward to balance things out. Your rear wheel will slide out way before your front one otherwise.
