I want to get rid of my rear fender but I'm wondering about the muffler guard. If I remove the fender it appears that the muffler guard will be hanging there so will I have to get a new exhaust or fabricate something to mount it to?

no it will not matter , you can take the rear fender off with out worrying about your exhaust , you should be more worried about your throttle cable getting gunked up ,,,,,,,,,, word

Maybe is just me but i feel more comfortable modding the rear fender than taking it off

The only catch with removing your rear fender is that your scoot will look unfinished on the back end because that ugly bracket coming out of the muffler will lead to no where and the airbox looks kinda unfinished too.....and you get crap all over your engine if you get caught in the rain. I agree with the others that mod'ing the rear fender is a better idea. You can be as creative as you want and you can make some pretty sweet designs. Here's 2 of mine: Long cut: Still keeps 90% of the water under control: Short Cut: Looks good and works good normally but if you get caught in the rain you'd better keep things under 15mph or you'll be spending a lot of time cleaning your engine the next day.

Dan, what did you use to cut your fender? I don't have many tools but was thinking about using sheet metal shears but im not sure if there is an easier, less costly way?

oh yea exacto knife works too, i cut my floorboard in half with that and barely needed any sanding

First I covered the back of the rear fender with masking tape roughly where I wanted to cut. I probably covered a 6" wide swath. Then I took a pencil and drew on the cut that I wanted...that way you can revise it as much as you want...when I was happy with the line I used an exacto knife to cut the tape away below it so my cut line was now the edge of the tape.
Then I used a 4.5" angle grinder that's normally for metal....I did a rough cut about 1/4" down from my real line and then I gradually grinded away the plastic up to the line. When I was close I got out a big file and took off the last 1/8" or so and then I used fine grit sandpaper to smooth it out.
