Hey Everyone, Im new around here. A friend of mine asked me help with his 2019 ruckus because he had no idea what was wrong with it. I quickly found that there was little compression so I decided to tear it down and rebuild. First thing I noticed was the metal shavings or metal dust in the oil. Once I opened up the crankcase, I saw that the piston rings were shot. There is some minor scoring in the cylinder as you can see in the attached pictures. My question is, how big of an issue are these scores? I could hone out the cylinder and see if that helps. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated Thanks -Dale Attachments:

Hey Dale in my experience with engine building scoring is never really a good sign. I'm shocked that a modern ruck engine had a failure like that to begin with and I'd be wondering if your friend forgot to keep up on the oil.
To answer your question if that's the base of the cylinder where the scoring has occurred I wouldn't worry about it, if it's the upper portion of the cylinder I'd look for a new/used engine as I haven't really seen replacement sleeves or +0.010 rings/pistons on the market. A used GET engine from marketplace will have you sorted out in the 2-300 range so it's pretty cheap anyway. Keep up the good work helping a friend out!
