Hello everyone. I recently got a 50 cc ruckus with 1700 miles that isnt starting. Weve tried almost everything, but I'm new to scooters. I was wondering if anyone can steer me in the right direction. The bike wont crank pretty much at all. It's almost like a riding mower, if you try to start it with the PTO or deck belt on. Like the engine has too much load that the starter cant turn it. The kick start will turn it over, but it wont fire. It has spark, and fuel. The brake levers are depressed. Battery is fully charged. Clean connections. We even removed the variator off of it to eliminate any additional load. At one point we tried the kick start and electric one at the same time, and it almost seemed to like pop free, and it would crank. We took a break and came back and it was the same again. The valve clearances were checked, and adjusted to the correct measurements. New plug properly gapped. With the plug out it seems to spin over just fine. We did get a bit confused on the timing, but one mark it was right on the measurements, and on the other mark you couldnt even get the smallest feeler in. I know it's not scientific, but you can feel the compression with a finger over the plug hole, and if you put your hand over the exhaust. I'm at a loss. If I had to really guess, it's like the starter is bad, but it works fine with the spark plug removed. I read these have a combination starter/ generator. I'm just not to sure about what to do. It will do like a quarter rotation and the starter will stop. I'm so frustrated, and hoping someone can suggest something I havent been able to figure out. Thanks so much!

Hello agreedtuba, did you ever get any answers to your first post about your ruckus not cranking? I've posted twice before and got a bunch of views but no replies to my questions.

Try taking off the fuel line off the carb, turn the key and listen for a “pulse” or “tick” from under the fuel tank. If there is a pulse, then watch the fuel line to see if it is pumping a good amount of fuel. If not then replace the pump. . Next is the stator, this is a little more technical but there are videos on YouTube that show you how to test this. Hope this helps!
