I just bought a 2012 Ruck with 1400 miles on it. Runs great, but flatlines at 35 mph and I weigh 180. I want to make some mods to bump it up to 45mph if possible, but I don't want to do the mods more than once. This will have to be a one and done project for me. The main roads I drive on are 45-55mph, so reaching 45 would be nice, but will be quite happy just to reach 40.
My understanding from the Ruck threads on this board is Polini variator weights are tricky, and especially if I weigh around 180. What weights should I use. One person said 6g Daytona weights. Another said to buy different sets of roller weights - 5.5g 6.5g 7.0g. Do I really need to buy different roller weights or can I take an educated guess? And where do I buy the Polini Variator? Should I use Malossi grease, and if so, on the weights or the housing?
One person recommended a Drop in Air Filter, and another the Big K&N Filter. Are these the same? And where do I buy the big K&N Filter if so? Do I need to tune the jets with a new air filter?
A thin synthetic oil was also recommended, but not specified. What thin synthetic should I choose? 0w30 or 5w30? I live in MI where it can be very cold.
A CDI Box was recommended. What brand do I want to use. Does the choice of CDI Box matter? One recommended a Posh CDI and Coil? And Do all CDI boxes come with coils, or is that separate? Are coils necessary to replace? Where do I buy a CDI Box and coil?
If I choose to swap into a PC20 Carb or Mikuni as recommended by one, do I need to retune the jets? Is the PC20 or Mikuni carb an easy swap even? I need to keep this simple as I am not totally mechanically inclined.
What hte heck is a "contra spring" and how does one "tune" that?
Also, what is best spark plug and belt to use?
