Mitzie and I looked up some of our Ruckus Buddies from Georgia two weeks ago when They were holding a Ride near Ellijay. I had laid Them out some Routes using Blood Mountain, Hwys 136, 60, etc. We rode down on my F6B, and Mitzie's PCX150 Scooter. We only had 2 days, so we hustled down on Saturday, and came back on Sunday. "Dummy Me" forgot the Camera(s).... ...We had went on a Miata Convertible Trip on the Natchez Trace the week before, and I had taken Them out of the Honda 1800 F6B. Oh well, not exactly what this Thread was/is about anyway...
Five years ago, when we first rode with These 11 Guys, Everyone had Ruckus Scooters. We rode with Them again 2 years ago...there were (counting Ours), 9 PCX Scooters, and 4 Ruckus Scooters......this year, each of Them had PCX125, and PCX150 Scooters (Our Mississippi Ruckus Group is totally Silver Wing 600s, and Burgman 400s and 650s when we rode with Them last Fall).....in a lot of ways, I hate to see this, but having been around riding Scooters for decades, I fully understand it.
The PCX Scooters (Yes, 150s are worth trading in Your 125 for...Mitzie's runs about 72 mph on the Interstate, and pretty much 50mph+ on any hill, including the Blue Ridge Parkway, or climbing the Smokies) will take You to Your Ride, participate during Your Ride, and take You back Home. Mitzie has ridden Hers to Arkansas, Georgia, and will be in Mississippi with it this weekend, riding with Motorcycles and Trikes. It gets better average mpg than a Ruckus.
Ken Rabbit (Honda District Rep), and Charlie Keller (14 year President of the HRCA, Honda Riders Club of America, Designer of the Honda Hoot, and the Guy that nicknamed me "skuuter") keep saying the demise of the Ruckus in the USA is coming. That will be a sad day if and when it happens. I had a lot of Fun on the Little Scooters, and Thanks to Keller, got to ride one of the only two in existence at it's unveiling at the Honda Hoot. Several years ago when Honda unveiled the "125cc, Disc Braked Ruckus" at the Australian and USA Motorcycle Show, I really hoped it would see production. The Longer, 2-Person Seat, Rear Footpegs, and 3" longer wheelbase would have all been pluses... ;D
Alas, by the time Honda decided to use the up-grades, They felt the Buyer Market had evolved in the direction of the more "Silver Wing-ish" looking Scooters. As much as I hate it, it looks like the "Little Ruckus" may be doomed.
For whatever it actually means, the "Ruckus Scooter Gatherings" seem to be getting dominated by Larger, Faster Scooters lately.....Time will tell..... ;D
