Hello, My name is Hap and I'm from NH. I can buy a brand new 2011 leftover ruckus for 2570 out the door from dealer (have to travel 3 hours to get it) or I can buy locally a 2009 Ruckus with 920 miles on it for 1750. Thats the lowest he will go. I think I am going to buy the used one. Its for my 16 yo daughter who landed an awesome job as the summer lifeguard at the town beach. I went and looked and drove the used ones and saw that he had it on a charger when I got there so I need to ask him if it needs a new battery. Although it was slow to start, once it warmed up it seemed to run fine. I got it to about 35 and I weigh 230 lbs. Its very slow off the start to get it going. I said I would take it for the 1750 but I want to come here first to see what you all think about the deal. New or used? Also, what exactly should I be looking at when purchasing like known areas of concern, etc... Thanks for the advance replies, Hap

The ruckus is a great scooter that will last forwever with proper care, 950 miles seems like few miles on it, maybe a full charge after a long ride will bring the battery to full charge again, but the question is always why are they selling it? Find out why did they buy it and why they did not ride her much. The price seems fair but on the high end of the scale, so it should be almosty showroom condition to be confortable with the price, but if the answer to the questions satify you, go for the used one

does not look showroom but does not look like it is beat or damaged at all. He said he does not justify having it because it is not being used. I think he bought it used as well, probably getting a great deal on it , but I dont know. He did say it had a CDI and variator on it to help with the hills. I also saw the black mesh screen around the storage area under the seat. If I look in craigslist in my area, there are not many for sale and they want even more money for used ones! This is the best deal I can find and like you say, it really does not sound like a deal that is why I was posting about a new one but do I really want to pay even more???

Hey Hap I live in Maine and purchased my new 2012 ruckus from Rochester motor sports in NH.I did this after looking for months at used ones. I found that all of the ruckuses on CL wanted way to much money for older scooters with high milage. Most were in the $1600 -$2300 range and most were beat on. Guys would tell me with a straight face that $2000 was a deal on a 2005 with 3500 miles on it and cracked plastic when I could pick up a new one with 0 miles and a factory warranty for $2400 so that is the choice I made. Most likely they let the battery go dead over the winter or while it was in storage so it most likely has dead cells and will need to be replaced.

Tell that guy 1500 or walk away. You'll want to look inside the CVT cover and make sure all is well, find out what kind of variator it has, what kind of CDI, etc, too. I'm not a fan of CDI's as you can get the same result with fine tuning and they always Crap out on my friends.
