This is the plan so far: 10/21 - Thursday - TBD 10/22 - Friday - Cades Cove Loop with Picnic Lunch - Routes possible: Rich Mtn road, Parson's branch, Deals Gap. 10/23 - Saturday - TBD 10/24 - Sunday - Short ride/breakfast More info to come. Questions.Someone mentioned Fontana Dam, that loop involves the Dragon, is this still wanted? If so, Skutter can Cades Cove and the dam be done in the same day? I don't think it can but you've rode it more than I. If not would it be better to do Cades Cove Friday or Saturday? Suggestions.Kami is all for Dirt roads, but we need to make sure that everyone knows the last time we did the dirt road to the Dragon Kami Skuuter and I all almost had get-offs on it, so care is needed, unless someone wants to take my lead and donate, the hard way, a ruckus for Mike to ride. The crux of the matter. The big question is what type of rides do folks want? Plenty of stops too sight see or as much seat time as possible? Do we want varying terrain, dirt, curves, long sweeps, hills and valleys? I doubt there's a road Skuuter hasn;t been on and if he's not been on it I'm sure Bill has, folks just need to figure out wha tthey want to see and how they want to ride and thos eof us that have knowledge of the are can chime in with suugestionss and descriptions.

No, Cades Cove and Fontana Dam cannot be feasably done in the same day on a Ruckus. Virtually two seperate rides in and of Themselves with 50cc on tap... ;D I also saw where the Routes were gonna' be rode and tested at 40 mph with the Big Ruckus....Impossible on a Small Ruckus. I did lay out one ride one year with a 600 Silver Wing. I ran 25 mph consistantly. We took 20 minutes longer to complete on Ride Day with the Small Rucks.....most rides in the Smokies Area ends up averaging 23 mph with Small Rucks, so my rule of thumb is 92 miles covered in 4 hours. Add very many stops, long BS sessions, and it takes longer. I've done the full Townsend, Little River Road, Park, Cherokee, Bryson City, Fontana, Deals Gap, Foothills Parkway, Townsend by myself with only Gas-n-Go at my Full Pace on the White Ruckus Sharron has now....it took ALL DAY, as in barely sun-up to sun-down. Townsend is 200 miles one way for us, and it is 6 hours of riding on a Ruckus to get there with only one good size climb, most is flat. 130 mile ride in the Smokies with a meal is realistic, anything longer and it makes for a really Loooooong day. Too many climbs, curves, traffic.....just my 2 cents... ;D Some Routes are Great for Rucks, some are Dismal. My very Best Road Routes there are not doable with 50cc (even modified ones)...I really wish some were, so Ruckus Folks could see them. No way to leave Townsend and return in the same day, because some are 6 to 8 hour rides by Motorcycle.... ;D Dirt/Gravel......Yep, as You know Joie, I love it, but there again, not for "EVERYONE"....it can be risky for some Folks, especially if They try to follow and keep up with Folks with lotsa' Dirt experience. Also a lota' modified Rucks are no longer very good for this type of riding. The Stockers take a real beating also unless rode very "Scenically"...as in "slowly".........will be waiting to see the Routes posted....and yes, not much I haven't been on in the Smokies, Blue Ridge Parkway, etc. areas......like I said, just my 2 cents..... ;D

more discussion over at TR.. but i know what you mean.. for me riding doesnt matter.. but for some they may not want to ride dirt.. hell my driveway is all dirt/gravel so i ride it everytime i ride my ruckus.. so dirt cant hurt.. i think rubik got rained out and he was going to take into consideration the speed.. i will read the posts here again later.. real busy at work today i just skimmed thru.. but here is a video of the dragon last year i got the footage from DubG..

My preference is to ride on pavement...I can ride all day, that's not an issue...standing around BS'ing should be left for back at Docks...lol....ride, ride, ride, ride, ride! I don't really want to ride on dirt or gravel roads...too much bottoming out of the shocks and too much dirt/mud to clean off the ruck...(you all know I like to keep my $hit lookin' tight...lol)...but hey, i aint no vag, so if that's what the groups wants to do I am up for it. ;D Also, I'd love to do the Dragon again RIDE OR DIE!!! ;D Great job with the vid Dave, entertaining as always...and damn that cameraman can ride...lol!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For whatever it is worth, my two cents: Riding and stopping for sightseeing and bathroom breaks sounds like a good idea and it is even better if we can get the significant others to ride also, stopping for a BBQ and BSing is also a good idea, but sadly someone have to take care of the cooking so he or she does not enjoy as much as the rest of the gang, therefore stopping some where to have a group lunch is better, as far as i know the metropolitans have an advantage on the hills so if the skirt rides one she might beat us up the hills ( my wife always mention that in our last rainy ride over there she could catch up to you guys, sadly i was in the back barely making it up with the stock bore Katrina ) Riding on dirt was actually fun, at least i think so So in my opinion, riding from 6 to 6 with stops in between sounds like a great idea, but super long rides is kind of tough in old guys like me Having more female riders will also be good, i do not understand why we can not get more wifes and girlfriends involved

When You first start a Ride and the number of Attendees is fairly small it's fairly easy to have Fun, and Everyone have a Great Time. As the numbers grow, the complaints grow, and pretty soon a lota' Folks start lookin' for New Ride Leaders/ Planners. I still feel it is best to have Ride Leaders with lotsa' riding experience, and lotsa' familiarity with the roads that are to be used. I also think it is best to keep "socializing" as a very important factor. If You lose some of these things, rides seem to drift away into oblivion...seen it happen.I hope if the Smokies Fall Ride takes New Directions using Newer Ideas that it still remains an Annual Fun Event for Everyone.....We have enjoyed it a lot every year in the past, even the massive amount of Trips up to Ride and Re-Ride Routes during the planning. I will post Pics of the New Cades Cove Road here soon. We rode the entire Loop last Saturday... ;D
