Just bought a 2008 w/255miles,and its been sitting almost a year with same gas in it (having some idling issues, but when jet kit gets installed,he will clean carbs also) 1st mods, hoping for some feedback on what you guys think... I have already installed black metal"man-o-war"mountain bike footpegs(ill post pic in my next post)I think they look stock,if you didnt know better. I bought what was in this pic(kn variater, new oil, fuel treatment,6 gram teflon rollers,b&s air filter, main and pilot jets and michelin boppers) I have on the way a ngk iridium plug,a fender eliminator kit,4clear mini-stalk clear turn signals, drd exhaust, and 2 white honda "wings"for either side of battery box... Any feedback on how it is to ride without the duckbill in the back?Im taking it off,as the drd exhaust allows removal of it.is it bad in the rain? What other mods should be next?im leaning towards cdi box... "] "]

all that will make them fly.. jet and exhaust alone should make alot of power..

Hows everything going? Have you gotten everything/anything installed? I don't pretend to be an expert, but just from some of the research I have done, I would do one mod at a time. I've read too many posts that go "I've modded these 10 things and my ruck still has the same max speed" I'm planning on doing a lot of the same things to my scoot this summer. Heres what I would recommend: 1. Oil, fuel treatment(Mystery is good, but I like seafoam for cleaning out the jets), Spark plug, and maybe clean the carb before the jets 2. Check out how everything is idling and look at the idle screw and see if it needs adjustment. Make sure you can hit a stock top speed 40ish with 160lb rider 3. KN Variator - test and tune with different rollers you should get 1-3mph 4. Throw on the Boppers 1-2mph 5. I'd get the CDI and put that on then, b4 the exhaust 6. Exhaust and Jet 7. intake and jet Throw on the parts for looks whenever of course. BTW you ruck looks nice, I just got my pegs on yesterday and I think I like urs better. But my pegs fold up, so thats nice.
I know I saw a modding guide on total ruckus, but I can't find it now.

I agree with most but "my" experience with the CDI, makes me not recommend that as a performance mod, unless you are small and keep hitting the rev limiter a lot

I'm not a CDI fan either....I've used several and never noticed a benefit besides being able to exceed the redline down hills. On flat ground there is no noticable gain. Others may disagree....
Exhausts don't do much either but they sure do sound loud and some of them look amazing.

Yah, Chanito and Dandy Dan are the experts and I don't have any real experience with the CDI's. Just from what I've read people have varying opinions. I haven't decided if I'm gonna try a CDI. I just got my polini variator installed and tested with the 5.6 weights I gained acceleration but didn't gain top end and then i used half 5.6 and half 6.9 and I gained 2 mph. Dandy Dan seems to like the sliders so I think I'll try the 6gram sliders. I'm about 6'3'' 185. Anyway when you get some things installed keep us updated on how everything is going.

will you get better acceleration even with the heavier rollers? or does it have to be lighter only.. didnt get my stuff in yet so i wonder..

From 0mph to about 5-10mph the rollers don't affect your acceleration because regardless of your setup, your Ruckus will be maxed out at the lowest gear ratio. Heavy rollers will start to upshift around 5mph, whereas lighter rollers act slower, so you'll be at the lowest gear ratio a smidge longer. From then on, the lighter rollers will give you better acceleration since you'll have higher revs and a lower gear ratio. This continues to be true all the way to the point where the variator maxes out at it's tallest gear ratio (which is around 35mph depending on your rollers). From then on, the variator is going to be stuck at it's max gear ratio regardless of your rollers and so the RPMs will rise linearly to the redline.
