How is resale value for the Ruckus calculated? I there a Kelly blue book with scooter prices?
I put two ads on craigslist to get a gage of what people are willing to pay for my ruckus ('05 12,000mile stock.) Runs like the day I got it (thanks to this site) The ad first for 1500 and the second for 1000. Every reply was: that it has too many miles will I take $400 or $600 was the highest offer I got. Taking into consideration that my description was accurate that it needed nothing I cant believe anyone looking wouldn't pay 1000 for it.
My reasons: It is 3 years old and was maintained properly and a new one is 2500$ if you can find one.
For minimal maintenance I can drive this thing at least another 12k. I assume. (too optimistic??)
All said, I don't want to sell my ruckus but i just wanted to figure out what point it will be worth nothing even though it is in near perfect condish.
My conclusion... I have to wait until it is a collectors item fifty years from now to get a thousand dollars for it And inflation Yikes...
I can drive this thing until i am dead and it will be a reliable fun and good looking scooter .
What do you think?
what have you sold high mileage ruckus' for?

KBB will price the Ruckus, but it's basically by year and assumed mileage. If the mileage is more or less, the price is different, accordingly.

KBB has a motorcycle guide. I looked up Rucki before buying mine. For the most part they are in the $1300 to $1750 range for used ones.

Two issues. First one, with 12,000 miles people that know the ruckus are going to fear for the main bearing. Second, everyone wants to buy a ruckus for as little that they can.

It seems high mileage to me. So I'm not surprised by the prices you're being offered.
The Ruckus ain't a car and I would place a 3 year old one with 12K miles as akin to a 3 year old car with 100K miles. That's a lot higher than average and there's repair work just waiting to be done no matter how well cared for it is. For instance: Are they original tires? Has belt and rollers been changed? None of these cost a lot, but they're still work to be done sooner rather than later.
Just for comparison using your conception of the deal: A new Ford Focus in $15.5K on the low end. A 3 year old one books at $6600 with 60K miles. That's about 42.5% of the new value. A 3 year old one books at $5210 with 100k miles. That's about 33.6% of the new value. If a new Ruckus is $2500 like you say (it does seem close to Out The Door price in my opinion--however, I'm not sure my $15.5K Focus price is OTD), then a 3 year old/12K miles Ruckus that's similar to a 3 year old/100K mile Focus would be $840.
Also, the '09's just aren't as rare as they were just a month ago, so that might deflate prices further since yours is now viewed as 4 years old.
Added: Also, your '05 is known to be slower than the '06 and later models. That could have an impact as well.

New tires and brakes @ 9k. Within the last month battery, rollers(2nd set), belt(2nd), fluids, fuel filter(2nd) and air filters(6th). I replaced the crank bearings at 8k
Its also almost winter too. That probably had and effect on the price.
True firegut everyone lowballs scooters.
I guess why would anyone buy a 12k ruckus when 90% of the people that buy these buy scooters and then they just sit in the garage with boxes and junk on top of them. thats why people are selling their '03 ruckus with 900 miles

You've certainly kept up with maintenance, but you're right about many people not putting many miles on scooters.
Unfortunately for you, I suspect many of the people buying used aren't only looking at the Ruckus. The folks who really-have-to-have-a-Ruckus-right-now might just buy new instead of waiting for the right one used. So you're competing with the entire scooter market on price and miles.

Well, speaking from my recent experience (picked up an urban camo 06 with 70 miles on it under 1500$) it seems you might be a bit higher then it should be...
I still say your ruckus is worth around 1000$, hell, people spend 1000$ on old beater elites! If I was selling it I'd probably play up the fact it's a honda (and play up it's indestructibility as a result), and wait until warmer weather (not a factor here in phoenix AZ).
Course on the same note I specifically ruled out any ruckus older then 2006 when I started my search, I wanted a ruckii that went 43+mph out of the box, 35-37 mph doesnt really do it for me and all the research told me the 06-09's are identical and much preferred if you can get your hands on one.
Good luck either way!

I sold my 2003 Ruckus with 27,000kms (18,000 miles?) about 2.5 years ago for $1300 Cdn (about $1100 US). I think you should be able to get $1000 - $1300 USD for it in the spring. Selling in the fall is always tough.
With that said, I wouldn't buy a pre-2006 Ruckus personally and it may be that more educated used Ruckus buyers are looking for '06 or newer models. The crank bearing problem is a pretty big downside. Even though I'm comfortable rebuilding the Ruckus's engine, I'd still rather pay a couple hundred more for a Ruckus and not have to replace the crankshaft every year (I put a lot of miles on my Rucks).
