I wish! Anyway, i went to NAPA autoparts and got 3 feet of 3/16" fuel hose and replace the stock carburator feed line, so it got to the other side, install the carb throttle cable and try to start the engine, it took a lot of time but i finally got it running, the combination of light flywheel, HO camshaft and the big carb make the idle jump all over the place, i had to set the idle at 3k to keep it running somewhat smooth, figuring the idle speed adjustment on this carb is kind of tricky as a little movement of the screw changes the speed big time and it takes a while to settle down, the idle mixture screw works on the air bleeder so it is not a direct adjusment like on the stock unit, i have to relearn everything on this carburator My battery is dead from sitting down for so long, so i installed the one from my wife metro, on Katrina and i came home, so far my impresion of all the mods i have done is somewhat disappointing as the performance is not significantly better than stock and the slide carb requires finesse to avoid bogging down on acceleration and on part throttle snap acceleration, and the scooter stall on me a couple of times on my ride home. On the time i had i long full throttle run i can see the tach needle go past 8k with ease, but i doubt it will take me to 50 Mph as i was hopping it would, is obvious i need to spend some time tunning the carb, but i think i would put back the stock unit and finish tunning the cam first and once i am please with it i will go back to the big carb I guess i am trying too many things at the same time, lets go back to walk before running

the carb is somewhat of a biatch to tune.theres no way to get rid of the bog short of going with a huge slow jet

What jetting are you running? Immediatly adjust the needle to the richest highest postion. That is going to help alot. I run a 50 pilot jet despite what all the people say and I have almost not bog at al unless I try to make it bog by snapping the throttle open as fast as I can.
You should be able to go easily past 50 mph.
The carb is easy to tune!

Well i finally got it back to the shop, after fighting with the scooter in order to keep it running, as it wanted to stall at all the intersections, i took the big carb out and installed the stock unit and throttle cable, the scooter run better and it did not stall but the idle was way high, as i try to adjust it it will go from 3k to 1500 and then die, so i started to do the usual stuff, clean the spark plug, make sure everything was tight and tested everything i could think of, but no luck, it was either run very fast or not at all, so i was about to get a hammer and scare the scooter with it, but i decided to do a check from the beginning, and went very carefully over everything, and discovered a small crack on the head, just by the intake flange, sure enough spraying some carb cleaning, proved there was an intake leak It was embarrassing, i am the lead tech at the dealership and is part of my job to get the rookies out of their bad habits at diagnosis time, and one of the things i always drill them on, is to check the basic stuff (like check for blown fuses or bad connection on electrical problems instead of start taking things apart only to discover it was a blown fuse or a loose connector), anyway here i am spending a couple of days porting and cleaning a head only to find out it was cracked (it was in my tool shed for a year at least and was moved around every-time my wife took out the season decorations or put them away) instead of doing a total check before starting on the performance stuff (the way it should be done) i did not. And the whole shop was there looking at me fighting with the scooter only to find out it was something so stupid. i really felt like a donkey I got some epoxy, cover the crack and got Katrina running decent and i will run her like that until the new year and then is head swapping time again Frickin 50mph just does not want to be achieved

So going to work the epoxy finally gave up and the flange on the head is almost totally broken, i guess the extra vibrations from the higher rpms and lighter flywheel was too much, but Katrina soldier on until i got to work, i had to keep the throttle twist a little to avoid it quitting on me, after i shut it down at work, if has refused to start again So i am back on the Metropolitan untill 2009 and then i will fix her (hopefully) i just checked the other head and appears to be perfect. I might just used the broken head to finally do the short intake one i always wanted to do

So Katrina is up and running, the other day "Dylan0057" showed up at the shop because he wanted to tune his modified ruckus, sadly i could not find the tip for tunning the idle mixture screw (i have a Bermuda triangle inside my tool box) so i offer to bring one of the new ones i have from home, but he will have to came back another day, sure enough 2 days later he showed up again, we tune the carb and since it was super slow at work we decided to go for a short run, that was the first time i took Katrina out of the shop after the rebuild, and she run wonderful, i had to let go of the throttle as i was just on the gas for too long on a fresh rebuild engine (a no-no on a fresh rebuild) but i took her home that day and she was great, i love that i can ride at over 40 on a straight road ;D Now i just have to break her in properly and then readjust the valves (i have a bunch of shims, but obviously not the right ones, so i installed the valves as close as i could on the loose side of things) as i will have to take the valve cover and get the measurement i need for ordering the right ones, and then i am going to give the JC carb another try, but first, i need to fabricate a proper intake, as i do not want the blow by gases (a lot on a cold big bore engine) to the atmosphere. I am so happy, maybe now i can finally will be able to make it to the fall ride

I was planning on a how-to on the engine, but since i am the one taking pics, once i started i did not stop until i was ready to wash my hands Sorry Anyway this was a week ago that i finally rolled Katrina to a bay in preparation to take her apart (it does not sound right ) Then i removed the drive train and set in on the table Then i just started tear it down the only stop was for some drink s when i got to the flywheel removal, so i snapped one more pic The another long work section and when i stoped again for more drinks it was almost time to mount the new fixed drivetrain back, with a fresly painted valve cover, i think i will paint all my ruckus engines valve covers Caterpillar yellow from now on And finally she is back on the road, and so far so good ;D I hope you guy like her new look, i have not mounted the floorboard because i will ride her until i am sure everything is fine and then i want to give the slide throttle carb another try, as everyone seem to agree it work better in the big bore

Ha. Do not feel bad, at work we had to remove a dash on an SUV because the kid's hamster has gotten away and died inside the dash and it was smelling awful, the lady came to retrieve some stuff from it and almost had a heart attack when she saw all the inside gutted out
