Before you try to take off the connector on the spark plug; buy a spare connector. The one from NGK is only, $3.60; while the Honda one is, $13+. I found out the hard way. Mine broke; because it was stuck on so tight it almost toppled over the scoot when I tried to pull it off.
I was trying to remove it to put in the cold weather plug, the one recommended in the owner's manual for use under 40 deg. F. is one of the following brands and number:
NGK # DPR6EA-9
DENSO # X20EPR-U9
I would recommend removing the main side cover to gain access to the spark plug ;D; the tool kit of the scooter SUCKS big time. You cannot tighten spark plugs with the tools from the kit ???and the access hole is really a poorly designed and is far to small to work properly. (I am thinking of drilling a hole in the main side cover to allow an extension for my 3/8" drive to fit onto the spark plug without using a flex adapter. Will use some sort of rubber plug or make it the size of one of those plastic drain plugs to keep the hole looking like a factory design; so, I don't have to take off the main side cover to change the spark plug.)I would use a good rachet drive and an 18mm sparkplug socket. You cannot do the sparkplug seating procedure with the tools provided with the scooter, it won't work. I tried!
Tighten the plug according to the owner's manual, :-[shown on page 114. They recommend the following:
Tighten the spark plug:
If the old plug is still good:
1/8 turn after it seats
If installing a new plug, tighten it
twice to prevent loosening:
a)First, tighten the plug:
NGK: 3/4 turn after it seats
Denso: 1/2 turn after it seats.
b)Then loosen the plug.
c)Next, tighten the plug again:
1/8 turn after it seats.
