Hey all just wondering what is the Big Ruckus' top speed? From the pictures I've seen it registers 100mph but I don't think it can do that fast. Tried looking for this answer on other sites but to no avail.

Indicated 69MPH into a stiff wind. Now that I have switched to synthetic oil I expect to smash the 70mph barrier

Hi,
75mph on the 405 ...... not that I like having to do it. The size of the tires are what get me spooked, almost too small to clear certain road hazards @ that speed.

I hadn't ridden before I got my Big Ruckus so I had my dad drive it home from the dealer(this was extremely amusing being that he is a Harley guy). We had it up to 78-mph with both of us on the interstate. I have had it up-to 82-mph. I can't tell if it cuts off at that point because it really starts to shake a lot and its hard to stay at that speed when cars are passing you or slowing down in front of you.

I think I'd need some clean drawers after I tried 82 on one, especially with a shake coming on. I really would like a Big ruck but I'm holding out till '06 to see if the're are any more color options. Any body heard any good rumors on 06's ? Chuck

I can make some up for you. I hear there's going to be an all chrome big ruckus and a matte black/silver RR edition with a turbo for the same price.

I just found out that I have an egg in my tire. The dealer said its the reason for the shakes. I am hoping for a smooth ride from now on. He also said that after The Reflex brakes in he has had them above 90-mph. The Big Ruckus and the Reflex use the same engine (I think?) . I have put 1900+ miles on my Big Ruckus in the last month but I haven't noticed any change in speed.

Because I think mine is topped out....unless you make mods...90mph...would surprise me? Also what was so funny about your dad riding it home? I also own and ride an 03 Harley Electra Glide....I have over 33k on it in less than 2 1/2 years...ride safe.

OK, I'll wade in with this afternoons test. GarminGPS 3 extra equipment : full windshield, back deck trunk half full, stereo speakers and deck. Half tank of fuel. My weight with full riding gear and helmet 267lb Temperature, low 80s, air still and traffic light. Speedo indicated 71mph GPS 66.5. With traffic around me and passing me giving me some backdraft I got an indicated 78mph and GPS of of 73 I've been using the GPS for several years now and have found it dead on when compared with the occasional stationary radar unit approaching construction sites. No vibration problems yet and tires are holding their round. I do think that a little more aggressive tread pattern will be called for before I ride the Scootercannonball'06, I'm still hoping to find more BR riders to do the ride with me. terry

I am suprised to hear that the top speed people seem to hit is 73-mph. Do engins vary that much? Are the speedometers not up to par?
As for my dad... He rides a 92 Softtail. The two machines couldn't be more different. It was just funny to see him go from driving a Buick to squeezing into a Festiva.

I totally doubt an actual 80+ mph. I would like to know what a good GPS says, I don't think an analog speedo could be that far off. Ninety never.

I can make 80 without much trouble. the fastest I have had it is 82 0r 84.
Have you tried to take it that far?
My biggest problem is other people getting in front of me or bad roads. (I live in PA)

I get mine up to 80 on the flats full throttle & have had it to 85 downhill & still had a bit of throttle left. Without a windshield or helmet, anymore then 85 feels like I'm going to blow my face off & do permanent damage to my ears from the wind. I also get 37mph on my little Ruckus if I tuck a bit & thats with no mods, so I guess I have either got lucky & got better then average bike both times or else I got unlucky & got a inaccurate speedo.

Its good to hear someone else say they have hit the 80mph+ mark. I was starting to think people thought I was lying!
I am a pretty small guy so I am sure its easier to hit those speeds.
I do think I will be able to hit 90mph. Not on the road but in a tunnel. The difference in speed without the wind stopping you is nuts. I live close to three different tunnels so some late night when most are off the road I will give it a try.

I, had mine up to 70 with plenty of throttle left. I waited until the engine had more than 700 miles on it to go over 50 mph. The breakin period for the bearings is important and I didn't want to ruin them. Will be changing the oil at 800 mile intervals (due to a lab tech who had access to an electron microscope. He found the oil looks clean; but, after 800 miles shearing occurrs on the polymers that do the lubricating job. He found it cheaper to replace the oil and use the old oil in some of your older dinosaurs (like my '88 Ford Ltd. Police Model) or run it through your oil fired furnace. I'll be taking his advice considering the small amount of oil that is used in the crankcase of the, Big Ruckus.
