Electric start issue (Solved)

Hi,
Got the 06 Ruck about 3 wks ago with 3000Km on it
Everything worked great after I first change the oil on that 1st weekend.
Used it every 2 days but this week after sitting iddle for 3 days the ruck doesn't start (electric)
First I notice a little clicking sound from the battery then nothing at all.
Kickstart work fine for now........
Also, after the kickstart and leaving it on the stand it will died down after 10/15 seconds


Kickstarted it and took it for 1hr ride around stoping a lights
no dying problem though....

But after trying to shut off / restart 3X the electric starter or battery seem to be weak.

Is it the battery?
Fuses?
Plug?
Should I get a new battery?
Battery tender?
If it's one of these I probably need instructions

Sounds like your battery is dead....when the battery doesn't have enough juice to turn the engine over the run down protection kicks in and you just get the clicking sound. If you battery is really dead you don't even get that. Perhaps you left the key on once?

Anyways, if your out riding during the day then unplug the wires from the back of one of the headlights (it takes 2 seconds) and that'll free up a lot of power to charge up your battery quicker. Alternatively you could unplug both headlights and then let it idle in your driveway for a hour....or put it on a charger.

It is possible that you have a bad connection at the battery too...that's not unheard of. You could have a bad connection so the battery isn't getting charged or it could be that the battery is charged but the wire to the starter doens't have a good connection so the power can't leave the battery.

I m going home early from work and bring the battery to Honda so that they can have a look and charge it up if it's dead.
I'll also check all the connectors when i open up the front.

Definitely sounds like a battery. This happened to me. I even had a bad one on a new 07. It also will make the ruck not run right....not staying on, dying etc. get a battery maintainer from sears or a battery house also. ;D

Battery was low, got it charged up by Honda
All good now........thx everyone.....

I have something else to ask.
Now, when i go to put the battery back in place.
I notice I can't tight the screws for (+ and - ) all I can do is to put it back on the battery and to maintain the screws I need to put a piece of tape to stop it from getting loose.
Is this normal or it's just me.........
I know the previous owner had to bring the scoot in to have it service before selling it to me......

Just went for a ride for about 45mns.
Now, problem seem to be back or should I say it is back!!
Can't start w/ electric starter again.
I m not sure what's going on now, specially after "Honda" confirmed the battery is all charged up.
Could it be the connectors (+, -) that I mentionned above? Im pretty sure I taped it down quite securely.
I thought the Ruck was supposed to be easy maintenance, somebody tell me so, as I'm really having no luck with it at the moment......
Where do i start troubleshooting?

Seems to me you need a better connection on the battery, probably you will have to jam a nut there soit will allow you to tughten the batt terminals secure, as more than likely that is your problem

Just came back from my garage
took the cover out then made sure i pressed on the (+, -) w/ 2 fingers then try starting it w/ my other hand.
I only hear a very very faint click sound for the first 2/3 seconds then nothing at all.
Seem like the battery is totally dead, but that doesn't make any sense as I just had it checked yesterday!!
Checked my fuses to make sure they did not get blown....looks good.....
Don't know what's next to check?

Hmm...wierd problem. Maybe your battery is draining somehow. Take it back to your dealer.

Anybody know a place where I can bring my scoot to have it checked out for a good reasonable price that won't cost me arms & legs.....
The only place i know is Carter Honda @ the entrance of Granville Island....these guys are not cheap.......
I am in Vancouver/Burnaby B.C.

Please help out, as the summer is coming to an end and I rather not have the scoot stored the whole winter.
I might have even more trouble to resurect it later.

It doesn't have to be a business, it could be at someone's garage who is comfortable and experienced w/ ruck.........

Problem solved w/ the battery

I brought the battery to another motorcycle place and had it tested in front of me.....
Battery was dead........not even rechargeable !!

Ended up spending $100 to get a new one from some battery place.......

Don't know what the guy in "Honda" tested but that guy (old fart from the service counter ) must have been high on something..........now I know not to talk to him for any advice in the future.........

Also, bought a junior battery tender that I hooked up and fully recharge the new one as it was tested to be a little under 12 V.
(sitting in the store a while I guess since it got charged up)

Btw, the problem w/ me not being able to tighten the screws on the polarity of the battery is due to the 2 nuts that were missing (left out from the shop that work on the scoot from the previous owner) luckily the new battery came w/ screws and nuts.........
