I'm finally finished building up my Freeride mtn bike. Check it out...it's worth about 5g and I'd list the specs but I imagine most of you would be lost. Now I'll have more money available to devote to my Ruckus. Funny that my bicycle has dual 8" disc brakes but my scooter only has about 5" drum brakes.

Yeah, I was looking in a magazine at bike prices, and hell, a frame alone, I could buy a used Ruckus...
I'll stick with my cheap Huffy I got a Kmart with the messed up gears, thanks.

Being a gimp hinders my mobility but I can ride this LAfree electrically assisted (24V 7 speed) bike. 22mph seems lke flying. I have only ended up in one ditch so far, no casualities (at least to the neat candy apple red paint)

Hehe, could've spotted DD as a tred head. Nice comp spec, those are the sram triggers, right? And custom housing on the cables, and and and... Just looking at the engineering work that went into the Diabolus' makes me sad that we dont get that kind of refinement on scooters. If it's not a race car, most motorized stuff is overbuilt. The self powered machines look so clean! You really need to ride the coast DD...

I've never rode Vancouvers North Shore or Whistler but it's definatley a dream of mine to make it out there. I'd need to through on some different rubber though cuz those are my street tires. Do you ride WonderSlicer?
You're right about the shifters... they're SRAM X9 Triggers. I bought the frame online and built it up with my favorite parts over about 8 mths.
Here's my specs:
Frame: 2005 Rocky Mtn. Switch SL Shock: Fox Float RP3 Fork: 2005 Marzocchi Z1 FR1 ETA Brakes: 8" Avid BB7's Rims: Sun MTX w/o stickers Tires: Maxxis Holy Rollers (Tubeless!) Hubs: Rear = Hadley Titanium with instant engagment, front = Marz 20mm Stem/Seatpost: Race Face Diabolus Cranks: Race Face Evolve DH with external bearing BB Chainguide: e13 DRS Seat: Funn Full Throttle Bars: Azonic World Force Grips: Lizard Skins Logo ODI lockons Bar Ends: eNVy (note: made in North Vancouver! notice the capitol NV) Drive Train: All SRAM X9 except Shimano XT front derailleur and SRAM Hollow Pin 99 chain Cables: Avid Flak Jacket
The total cost was somewhere between 4-5g. Now that I'm done building that I'll have a bit more $$$ for my Ruckus. Pedals: Azonic Xtension

I definitly agree with a lot of decisions, especially the Hadley Ti and SRAM (cant really avoid the evil empire on the front de though.) I would call the diabolus stem and seatpost overkill, but this is part of an ongoing debate between my buddies and me where I'm on the side of finesse and fine tuned weight and they are dropping 10' bigger than I am! I haven't ridden in a year or so now, I had a Bullit built up but sold the frame and kinda lost my taste for the local trails. I do have an old Santa Cruz heckler frame from the mid-90's that I built with XTR V's (no disc tabs!) and a sweet pair of the old K2 parrallelogram forks. The only 'newer' style part is and outbaord bearing set of XT cranks, and there is no comparison there. Plus, runnning V-brakes allowed me to use my fav component of all time: the carbon fibre look Sram 9.0 V levers, just too sexy... I do have a pair of '98 Z1's, just before the wedge model. Full dual oil, rebound and compression adj., definitly a standout year, and the new Z1 (FR version) are the only SC forks I've found comparable in the wieght and versatility range, so nice call!

I agree that the diabolus stuff is likely overkill but I got the stem because I've always loved that piece and I got the seatpost because I've landed quite a few drops where my feet slipped off the pedals and I destroyed 2 seats and 1 post on my last bike (Kona Roast) so I just figured I'd go all out and get the Diabolus one. I actually have a Thomson too but I didn't cut it down as much and I use that for XC rides when I want a lighter and taller post.
I did try to save weight were I could but I didnt want to compromise on the parts a typically abuse like rims and cranks which is why those are kinda heavy too. However I did do a lot of light weight stuff where I thought I could like tubeless tires, hadley hub, azonic bars (surprisingly light), the air shock, A marz Z1 fork instead of the 66 and the hollow pin chain. As a result the bike weights 34.2lbs and I can actually XC ride it okay because the front fork drops down and the rear shock is awesome for pealling wiht the propedal cranked up.
I actually applied for a couple co-op jobs in Vancouver for May-Aug so if I get one of those I'll bring my Scooter and Bike out to rainy vancouver and hit the streets and trails.

Ha, my huffy got me around campus, and well, the town of Boone when need be... then I got a Ruckus and got lethargic.
I did take my bike out for a ride, went about a mile, mile and a half, maybe... good god, I'm out of shape. 'bout killed me. I remembered back when I rarely rode my bike, but I could still make an 8 mile round trip with just sweat... now, lordy.
I did forget how fun it is riding a bicycle on a 55mph highway... ha, ha.

I guess I should be thankful I have a car, too... and if I had 2500 bucks to throw away, I'd get the minivan running, so I could take Ryoko places.
