For 2006 Yamaha has switched their main model of Vino over to a 49cc 4-stroke. It'd be interesting to meet one of these on the street for a drag race. I was reviewing the specs and in addition to not being as cool as the ruckus, the Vino is inferior in other areas to such as: - less travel front and rear - 14mm carb vs. 18mm for us (good or bad depending on your goals) - air cooled - also has drum brakes but I think (not 100%) ours are bigger I am quite biased but I think the Ruckus is way better. Anyways, for more info look here: www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelspecs/150/0/specs.aspxIt goes on sale in september.

I have a 2-stroke vino that is giving up it's motor to go in my Ruckus. I'll be cruising at 55mph and doing wheelies- no problem.

Does the 125cc Vino the share the exact same body/frame as the 50cc? If so that would be impressive. I'd sell my soul for a 125cc ruckus that didn't look wierd. I love the size and look of the little Ruckus and I'm not willing to give that up for more power (ie. Big Ruckus) but I would love more power. What abe did with the 150cc motor sounded promising but it ended up looking like a frankenstein which isn't for me.

Our drum brakes are 95mm theirs is 110, however we have liquid cooling The 125 Vino is bigger but you have to put both bikes side by side, as they look similar

But are they gonna do a 4-stroke Zuma? 'cause that's really what we hafta compare the Ruckus to (not that it's possible, since the Ruckus is way cooler)

My bad on the drums...thx Chanito. I wonder which bike is faster in a 0-30mph race? I'd love to see a comparison in a bike mag.

Thx for the comparo. They look the same in the pics cuz the bigger one is scaled down but it would be significantly bigger in reality. That's actually pretty cool that the engine is a 3-valve (2 intake I'm assuming). They claim 4.7ftlbs of torque at 6000rpm which is a nice number. We've got 4.5ft/lbs but at a higher 7000rpm. The engine compression ratio is 7.3:1 which is quite a bit different than our engines (11.9:1). I'm surprised the 125cc has just 33mm of front travel. That's like 1.25". The 125cc still seems worth the extra thousand $$$ considering you get a bigger engine, disc brakes and other things probably. Lastly, that link shows the 50cc holds 4.6L of gas but yamaha's USA site says it holds 6L. Not that it really matters. Just as a matter of interest, I recorded my best milage ever today with a total of 174km before the gas light came on (That works out to about 110mpg). It seems like every performance mod I do ups the MPG once I get it tuned. This tank is the first one I've measured with the new H.O. cam. These mods are gonna pay for themselves soon. I better bore it out so I can get 200km on a tank.

:(The brakes and suspension on the 125 Vino are vastly superior to those on the Ruckus, and of course the power is there (60 mph on the flat, 65 downhill with 265 pound rider). But, the itty bitty tires make the handling much more twitchy than the Ruckus, and they don't absorb bumps without deflecting (bump steer in suspension dynamics parlance) like those on the Ruckus.
Gas mileage is also not as good, only about 70 mpg, and I get that on my Reflex with a 250 engine. I think the styling is pretty, but classical Italian scooter (not military - industrial like the Ruckus). The quality level is on a par with Honda, which is to say excellent.
Mrs. Jet is now riding the Wino, as we call it, when I ride the Reflex. It is so quiet, that when she is behind me, all I can hear is the turn signal blinking.

I have an 04 Vino with the 2 stroke, low down 1) Way quicker in the 30- 50 km/h range(ruckus 0-30 speed except 30-50) 2) Easily goes at 60 km/h forever, even up hills 3) Suspension BLOWS, bottom out on even the small bumps 4) Pickup from 0-30 is brutal

and the front suspension is horrible, goes inside over bumps, changes steering radius while turning, not a good feeling.....

So has anyone run into one yet? I'm still hoping to come across the 2006 hp specs. I doubt it'll be able to keep pace with an 06 Ruckus though because those puppies are doing 42/43mph out of the crate.

I discovered that the 06 Vino uses 80/90-10 tires which are even smaller than the Metro/Jazz tires. They may as well just put skateboard wheels on there. No hp stats yet though...

I was on ProvoScooter.com digging for some info and one guy posting saying his 2006 Vino tops out at 40mph but realistically it cruises at more like 35mph. It sounds like we've got a pretty good race on our hands unless you're piloting an 06 Ruckus and then you'd clearly be the champ.
