Well, after looking through the archives, I didn't find any how-tos on rear fender trimming. So I just jumped right in.
Here's my stock duck bill-
I took a couple measurements with a scale. Then using a few reference points, I wrapped a rubber band around the fender lip and traced along it for a line. I had a couple ideas, so I figured I would go with the one that required the least material removed. If I didn't like it I could move to the next one. To aid in my material removal, I put red electrical tape along the previously drawn line, as it can be twisted slightly to follow a curve (I'm sure pinstriping tape would have been better, but this is what I had on hand) Then I chopped the duck bill off with a cut-off wheel on my Dremel rotary tool.
I used a round emery grinder to get close to the tape line, then finished it up with a straight file. To remove the flash that inevitably collects on the edges, I pulled some sandpaper sponges across the edges and also smoothed the edges slightly, since the stock edges are rounded, not razor sharp.
Here's the first incarnation- I kept it slightly utilitarian in keeping with the Ruckus styling. I didn't want it too sleek or it would look like a pocket rocket or street bike.
You can see the pencil lines for the next two ideas, if I decide I don't like this after a couple days. The next one just has the very edge of the lip still curving out, and the last one would be pretty close to straight across with curved corners.
So far I like this one, it has a German WWII helmet look to it.
