While doing the first 600 mile maintenance I decided to check the level of the final drive oil, even though this isn't required. Anyway, I removed the oil check bolt and no oil dripped out, meaning there wasn't enough oil in the final drive case. Since the bike is new, this was a little unsettling.I figure the dealer would have checked this out. Anyway, as per the shop manual, you have to remove the left crankcase cover to get to the oil filler bolt. Remove the bolt and fill with oil until it reaches the lower edge of the hole. I used a thin plastic tube to fill it with oil. Reason I decided to check the final drive oil level because there was a knocking sound coming from the drive case when the bike was cold. It may have nothing to do with it, but the knocking seems to have gone away. The lesson Iearned is that don't always rely on the dealer to prep your bike, sometimes you have to look into it yourself. Oh, as per the manual, the final drive oil has to be replaced every two years. Hope this helps you folks out. Your ideas are helpful, let me know what you think.
