Tranquilo You will need to remove the muffler, 2 bolts hold it to the head (you will need a 10mm socket or wrench) 2 bolts of different lenght (do not mix them) hold it to the side of the motor, they will need a 12 mm socket and one last one that hold the rear fender, once you remove tha muffler you can get to it with a 14mm 6 point socket

Thanks for the help this made it so easy. Just bought my Ruckus 3 months ago and this is my first oil change....ever. I am not going to worry about trying to this again!

;D Congrats, doing an oil change is always a nice rewarding experience, and in the ruckus is so easy, is a shame paying someone else to do it

Yeah, just don't be like me and forget how much oil is in it, and put a catcher that's not big enough under it. Makes heap big mess. Oi.

The first time I changed my oil- in true noob fashion I removed the Oil strainer cap & O ring BEFORE I removed the drain bolt & washer. So a lot of Oil went out that was & through the screen etc. Was that bad to do? Next time I'll drain the oil before I take off the oil strainer cap but did I hurt anything by doing it backwards like that? also what is the best thing to clean the strainer screen with?
Thanks,
Bill

I do not think you have done any damage as the screen is not under pressure, just do not over tighten the cover. The best to clean the screen is brake cleaner, just make sure is dry before installing it back

I've got about 2500 miles on my Ruckus now. I've never cleaned the engine oil strainer screen. I dont have any problems with my scooter. It runs perfect. Should I clean the strainer screen as preventative maintenance or just leave it be?

If you change the oil regularly and the air filter is the stock set up, i would not worry just yet and give it another oil change, but you should plan on do it next just to be on the safe side

Sounds good. Also, completely unrelated but are there any benefits to putting premium gas in the Ruckus rather than Regular? I like Ruckus Central but the search feature sucks. I'd rather search than spend hours combing through posts. I'm easily distracted so I'd never find my answer.

This has been brought a couple of times, in "my experience" regular gas will give you a better all around performance, so using premium is not only more expensive but you get less performance

Aloha Rucksters,
I just bought "Lucas high performance motorcycle oil, semi-syn SAE 10w-40, api sm/sl/sj/cc/cd . jaso ma-2 . acae a3" is this fine? Also wanted to use a couple of bottles of left overs to drain through after draining to help flush, is this ok. Finally, i have only used premium gas, according to the last comment that is not ideal. Should i switch to regular or stick with premium.
Thanks for the response to my newb questions.
