I am getting a Ruckus real soon. I cannot wait. I am glad I found this forum with so many great minds. I wanted to ask any of you if you had anything that came up that was unexpected that you needed for your Ruckus. Specifically I have a set of questions, but if you think of anything else I am all ears (or eyes I should say)...
1. What is the normal amount that is added to the sticker price before I can drive out the door with it?
2. Do you get insurance to cover theft and personal injury? I checked with my agent, and it is $20 per month, not too bad. I live in a large city in a downtown area so I am thinking I should get it.
3. Do I need to get a lock for it? Any suggestions for a good brand and model of lock?
4. I know I am going to get a helmet, any suggestions for a good/affordable one? Ones I should avoid?
5. Do any of you use a scooter cover? Is it a good idea?
6. How does the ruckus handle in the winter? Any winter time advice?
I know these are a ton of questions, I would appreciate any help at all. I also hope this post helps any other future owners who check out this great site. Thanks!

1 - My ruckus was a 03 model that i got for a clearance price of 2200$. The total out the door was 2793. This includes 356$ Tax, 62$ licencing, 95$ for an assembly charge 'pre delivery expense' (which sounded like a scam), 40$ shipping and 40$ for an 'administrative' fee
2 - I don't have a insurance against theft, personal injury and collisions that are my fault but i would recommend it if you can get it for a reasonable price. I'm just on a tight budget. There is a real chance it could get stolen. 2 guys could easily throw it in a pickup truck and then change the ignition and they'd have a sweet scoot. If you don't get insurance get a good lock.
3 - I use a cable lock. I bought it for 20$ at home depot. I wouldn't recommend a chain lock cuz bolt cutters go through that pretty easy. Mine is about 1/2 cable and uses a key. The brand is kryptonite.
4 - First you need to decide what style you want. I know a lot of people on here use full face helmets (including me) cuz they protect you against bugs/rocks/rain etc. also you don't have to squint to stop the wind from flapping your eyelids back. One thing i've noticed about my full face is that the vent that prevent the plastic from fogging up don't work that great cuz the speeds are slower so you wouldn't have the airflow you would in say a Hayabusa.
5 - Scooter Cover? I don't use one. I just try to park in the shade. Its your call if you think its worth it.
6 - Well i haven't got any experience in the winter yet but i'm planning to drive mine 4k round trip to school and 48k round trip to work all winter (i live in southern ontario, canada) Obviously since its got two wheels its gonna be dangerous but i think it'll be better then also of other 50cc scoots cuz its got wider wheels for more grip. You could try and find some winter tires if you wanted.

Hi,
* Personal Experience * The Ruckus is very desirable, for people who diggit! So protect it from being stolen by 1)Locking it to something like a lampost or similar 2)Lock the back wheel with a bike lock thru the wheel and 3)Lock the steering. This should discourage most of the inexperienced thieves and leave only some with a lot of guts to try and snatch it. As for brand names, it all depend on your budget. Kryptonyte is the best, but it is pricey $$$. Insurrance is never a bad idea for the first couple of years (covers if stolen and also damages if it's your first time on only 2 wheels!)
Helmets: It always depend on how you ride and when. If you ride in cold weather or rain, a full face is best. If you get one, you can also get a second which is not that you wear when you know it's gonna be nice outside all day. Then put some sunglasses on for your own sake or some regular untinted ones to protect from wind and all road hazzards you'll meet (bees, rocks, dust...)
If you don't want a full face at all, you can always install a windshield. See store ;D
