hey guys, cool site. went for a spin on a buddy's rukus the other night and went in this morning and filled out all the papers for a brand new 2003 red rukus. get it on monday! i live in victoria b.c canada. i do a lot of 4x4'in and the cost of gas is getting high in my jeep. thought i could use the scooter to get to and from work. plus have some fun on it. is there any must do mods to it first. i like my toys and like to spend cash on them. so it will be full of mods real soon. don't want to swap motors, but will do what i can for it. thanks
Jay

The Battlescooter store will open July 1st and will offer all kinds of performance parts. Before this parts were hard to come by.
Did you find this site through Battlescooter.com?

Hi BadSeed-Welcome and congrats on your Ruckus! I picked up a leftover 2003 too, and got an awesome deal on it.
As far as 4 wheeling with it-check the battlescooter website. I recall reading a few things about the air intake and getting it wet-and some suggestions on modifications which may apply if you plan on taking the Ruckus off-road.

Or do you mean 2-wheeling with it lol. Just kidding Anyways, don't bother with raising the airbox but make sure you seal it with marine grease. Make sure you do the mod to the drive, raising the venting so that water doesn't get in. Mine goes offroad almost as much as it goes on-road. Heck, I ride with a friend of mine on trails who has a 650cc Honda 4-wheeler and I keep up.

Have fun on your new scoot ;D About the offroad mods. I may have been an extreme case. Read the tech stuff on battlescooter. If your Ruckus goes in water over the air intake raise it! The drive vent is the same thing, if the water and or mud gets higher than the intake raise it! The grease on the airbox seals is important to everyone who goes in the dust and dirt. When I removed the head dirt was built up around the intake valve. This could have been why my valves were so messed up. It's a great scooter and your bound to more

I've had mine in water up to the seat haha
needless to say it didn't start up for about 10 minutes.
All the electronics were fine though thank god.
We were parked next to a large creek and my buddy backed his 4-wheeler into it accidently and it fell into the water. Had a hell of a time getting it out it was in there for probably 15 minutes, no damage at all.
All I did was set it on its side to let the water out, then held the electric start down for a little while, then let it sit for a while, then tried starting it again and it sputtered to life!
It was new air filter time!

sorry guys, i wasn't really clear on it. i was just mentioning that my other fun thing to do is wheel(4x4). i use my jeep for that. the rukus will be some dirt trails/roads but mostly a pavement racer. i also have 10 years of MX racing and a few years on a CBR 600. also had a YSR80 about 7 years ago. just looking for basic stuff like a pipe, tires, maybe a way to change the gearing,etc.... it will be nice to do all this on a cheap cycle for a change. cost me a fortune to do stuff on my jeep.
