A neighbor threw away an 87 Elite 80 which I picked up and brought home. This thing looks like it came from a demo derby as all the body panels are broken, wheels are bent, and missing all sorts of pieces (pictures to follow). To be honest, it's not really worth restoring and was interested in the engine. I changed out the black sludge(used to be motor oil), cleaned the plug, poured in some fresh gas and fired right up. However, it runs terrible and needs a fresh carb rebuild among other small parts. The engine has a vertical crankcase unlike the horizontal Ruckus. This would protrude into the playpocket area which I wanted to keep. It's also air cooled which would probably make for toasty buns in heavy traffic I'm not sure attempting to swap this engine is worth the effort. Maybe some of my questions below can be answered and used as future reference. 1. Are newer Elite 80's 2001+ using horizontal engines or pretty much the same as what I have? 2.Are the newer engines water cooled? 3. Are the mounting positions for the 80 similar to that of the 150? I ask because Battlescooters 150 swap looks right at home with minimal fuss.

I don't think Honda has changed a thing on the 80. Engineering changes only. It would be easier to use because of the air cooling and mounts just like the 150. I'm not sure if it's a good swap or not. The air cooled motors can't make the power a water cooled motor makes. It would be a cheap way to go faster and that's the reason I used the 150 motor. Someone emailed me who is doing a 125 swap for the same reason. It would be different, cheap and faster. I miss my Playpocket
