Howdy - I just found this board. I'm thinking about purchasing a Ruckus for my daily commute. 9 miles each way on 30mph streets. I wanted a 49cc scoot to avoid registration costs, insurance and a special motorcycle license class. Does anyone on this board use there Ruckus for commuting? Any pros or cons on using the Ruckus for street use? Thanks for any input! I'm in San Diego BTW.

Jimmy I'm in Atlanta Georgia and commute 17 miles too and from school each day on 35-45mph streets on hilly roads. Its great! Awesome gas mileage. I strapped a backpack (fits perfectly) under the seat and you can put anything you want in it. It holds everything perfect. Its a great commuter, clean, quiet and you get alot of cool looks from people. The big tires and soft suspension make for a very comfortable ride. I love the seat also. Sometimes I carry a passenger and I have mounted foot pegs for them. Its a wonderful bike! The best 50cc scooter I have come across. Also, its awesome offroad.

Hey thanks for the info. Looks like it will be the Ruckus for the commute. Let me ask another question, what do you think the lifespan of the Ruckus is?

Hi Jimmy, Sounds like the Ruckus will fit the bill-though in Massachusetts, I had to regsiter it as a motorcycle-which I didn't mind because I was insuring it anyway, and have my motorcycle liscence. (The Certificate of Origin said "Bodytype: Motorcycle-so the regsitry said it wasn't a moped...)
I don't know about the laws where you are. But either way-I'm very pleased with my Ruckus-and I average almost 90 miles to the gallon to boot....
As far as lifespan-Take a look on ebay-there are plenty of Honda Scooters from the 80's still running! My husband just finally replaced his Honda Motorcycle last year-it was a 1983, and had over 115,000 miles on it. It is STILL running BTW. (He takes good care of our vehicles as far as maintanance) I'd be willing to bet as long as you take care of it-The Ruckus will have a long lifespan.

Yep I am only 15, (16 on Friday) and in Georgia you only have to 15 and mopeds and scooters are exempt from all licensing and registration. Not tag, no insurance, no drivers license even but I have mine. I will be moving back to Kansas soon where I am originally from and the laws are the same only it has to be tagged and insured. Have fun with your Ruckus! I love mine.

scrible88, It's interesting how different the laws vary by state. When I was registering my Ruckus-I saw 2 Zuma's with plates on them as well. The owner told me the registry made him and his girlfriend plate their scooters as well, so they were making appointments for their motorcycle liscence tests so they'd be "legal".
I have a 15yr. old son, and he dirt rides, and can handle my Ruckus just fine-but because I had to plate it-I can't let him ride it because he doesn't have a liscence yet. I have let him take it around the neighborhood for short rides-but he can't "legally" borrow it until he gets a motorcycle endorsement.
Enjoy your Ruckus Jimmy-You won't be disappointed!

Yes moped laws do vary by state. Here in Georgia I need nothing but a limited driving permit. It doesn't need tagged, insured, etc. Some people do have them tagged and insured but if you do here in Georgia you must have a motorcycle license. It all depends on how you want it registered here. I have been pulled over twice for not having a tag because the cops did not know the moped laws. After looking them up real quick they say all is well and let me go. In the little pouch under my seat I carry a sheet of specifications from the dealer so that they can see it is 50cc, etc.
