Honda uses the same diameter shims in all their bikes even though the part #'s change so they may not believe you. They should have a box of generic shims in their service area that the mechanics use and they should have your size there but some guys at the parts counter aren't aware of this. The approx. diameter is 1/4" or maybe 6mm and the shims will usually be 2mm-2.5mm thick.
What I usually do is open it up, measure the gaps, make/cut mini shims out of the feeler gauge arms to go under the real shims (if the gap was too big) and then order the right size of shim and put it in later. This way you can dial things in right away (unless your gaps are too small). Do you have a shop manual? If not the recommended gap is .10mm for the intake and 0.19mm for the exhaust. In my experience going bigger is a bad idea cuz you lose valve lift and things tick/buzz. I like to set mine to about 3/4 of the recommended gap.

Your welcome. The service manual is amazing. The only area they could improve is that they're always telling you that you need some fancy Honda tool when 90% of the time you can do it with a hammer, pliers etc. If a 3rd party made a shop manual that'd be sweet cuz they could tell you how to do everything using tools you might actually have.

It's not that hard. You just remove the front cover, seat frame and floor board to get at the engine (6-8 screws/bolts each) and then you'll see a cover on the front of the engine which is held on by 5, 8mm bolts. Remove these, lift the cover off and you're in. Then you use a feeler gauge (a tool which is just a bunch of thin flat metal fingers with the thickness marked on each) and stick it in the gaps to see how big they are. Using the kickstarter rotate the engine until the piston is all the way up (look/feel in the spark plug hole) so the cam lobes aren't messing you up) before you measure the gaps. To measure the gaps the size that just barely slides in the right one. To actually remove the shims just slide the rocker arm over and using a magnet or tweezers lift it out. The rocker arms are held in place by springs which aren't that stiff.
To get the right shims just measure the gap, compare it to what it should be( -.10mm intake (top) and .19mm exhaust) and then get bigger or smaller shims to make up the difference. ie. your gap is .40mm in the intake and you've got a 2.10 mm shim in there (which will just say 210) your gap is .30mm too big so you need an extra .30mm of shim to make that up so go get a 2.40mm (which will say 240 on it) from your dealer for about 6$.
If you already had the right shims you could open your ruckus up, do it and close things up again in about 1hr - 1.5hrs once you've done it and maybe 2hrs for the first time.

didn't expect the rocker arm able to be removed !!! you don't have to drain coolant liquid ?

The rocker arm just slides along that shaft...there's a spring that holds it over. You don't need to drain any coolant either as the head isn't coming off. Just pull that cover off and you're in business. Things are a little tight in there though so don't be in a hurry and keep a good magnet handy cuz you might drop a shim in the head and they're hard to pick out of there without one.

I'd try it before then. The shims seem to get way off after 1000-2000km. Once you've done it then and then again at maybe 10,000km (although it does vary a lot) you shouldn't have to adjust things much. You could do it every 15,000-20,000 after that.

Just look up VT Cycles phone number and give them a call.
About the valve cover gasket, yeah I couldn't get mine it at first either. I ended up cutting 1/2" out of it and then just overlapping the ends a bit. It is possible though. Just don't start in one area and work around the circle cuz you'll end up with a lot of slack at the end. Instead click point in then click the opposite point in (ie. put the top and bottom both in with the sides still it) so the slack is divided up. Then put the center of each side in etc...it's still tough but can be done. it's not a big deal that you cut it though....don't stress out.

I actually used email to contact them. They take a day or two to get back to you but it works out. I guess i did call them to place the actual order but the phone rate isn't too bad cuz it's considered part of the USA. I think it was 20 cents / min.
