Hey everyone new to the forum, new to the ruckus scene(have a grom and metro) and having some problems,any help or second opinions would be awesome!
Ruckus has some engine mods which include: Uni Air Filter;Polini Variator;Yoshimura Exhaust;NCY CDI. **sorry for long post just updating as i go along**
So the problem im having is the bike will idle fine and start right up but when you twist the throttle to 1/4 to full it will choke out and sounds like rev limiter but slower,drove it around the block and the max speed i could get up to was around 12-13mph if you tried to go more it would cut out and bog,and eventually die. i think i need a smaller main jet just asking second opinions before i start ordering stuff. was spitting little gas droplets onto rear tire from the carb also.
Things i've checked: Spark plug is black and sooty (rich), carb has been soaked and cleaned three times, wiring from cdi, is good an intact, fuel pump is pumping and working normally,shimmed valves to spec, ignition coil is working great and has a strong spark(replaced with another one to verify) ,fresh 89 gas,compression is great. Altitude where i live is around 930ft above sea level.
UPDATE: Found the jets the guy gave me, had 38,85 in, swapped them out for a new 38 and installed a 78, still runs about the same,off idle to 1/4 throttle still bogs and wants to die, but if you time it right on the higher idle and open the throttle it'll run good but still wants to cut out and sputter at about 15mph, after installing the 78 i went for a little ride and spark plug is still black..had a speck of tan on it. Tried tuning the IMS and it still cuts out and sputters around that 15mph mark, exhaust smells like gas like it is still rich with a 38p and 78 main..wondering about pcv and vacuum hoses.. if i plug the carb breather into the carb it stalls but has a smoother transition to mid vs if i have a carb breather filter on, head cover just has a hose coming out to atmosphere, pcv on right side on frame is also vented to atmosphere..,bottom of head(pair valve) is blocked off..tried stock intake with same results as aftermarket uni.
Soaking carb in carb cleaner overnight, put carb back together and noticed previous owner put the spring inside the carb instead of inside the diaphragm,rejetting to 80mj and waiting for new carb float to arrive along with some other goodies
Learned my ruckus doesnt have a check valve installed..hopefully that clears up my rich problem.
