The owners manual is wrong, our engines have more in common with your car engine than with other motorcycle ones, normally a motorcycle engine shares the crankcase with the transmission so they need special oil to take care of the lubrication needs of the transmission, however our little HIGH TECH engines do not share oil with the transmission so any decent 4 cycle oil will do, just please change it often, as this engines like to rev high and at 7500 rpms most of the time the oil life is extremelly hard, 600 miles (1000 kms) is the recommended maintenance interval and is a good idea to clean the screen every other oil change

Variators are OIL LESS transmissions, the rear end used a different oil (just 0.1 liters)

Just so everyone does know this. The Honda Brand oil is actually Repsol oil with a Honda Label on it. So it is High Quality Oil. If you want something better than Recomended use the Honda 4-stroke Racing Synth Blend.

I always recomend people to stay away from racing oils, most of them have friction modifiers an decay rapidly, so if you need a street oil just use regular oil, remember racing engines have diferent needs from street engines, and you take a racing engine apart quite often but not the one in your ruckus, but those friction modifiers sure make those engines faster for a little while

Unless you are DD who is always playing with something. I think he will not be happy until he reaches 100mph. At which time he will finally add the Dio brakes and forks so he can stop without killing himself.

Once I can go 60mph and keep up with cars on any road I'll be happy. A fast big bike is fun but a tiny little scoot that goes fast is way more fun. Plus I'll still be paying the low insurance etc.

Looking to run the 401?

Well no matter how fast I'm going that'll still be illegal. I drive from Toronto to Waterloo and back every weekend (about 100km/way) on the Hwy 7 and some backroads. I'd like to be able to keep up with traffic on there someday. I'm thinking about getting a Yamaha YSR80 (made up til 1991, goes 120km/hr, looks like a sport bike) for my highway running and just using the Ruckus as my around town monster. Two bikes would be nice because I could ride one while I work on the other. Right now I can barely get stuff done other than an oil change because I'm driving 600-700km/week.

If i could keep a constant 45mph, i will be a happy camper, i will probably end buying the 58cc piston a hot cam and finish the chanito exhaust, with any luck i should be cruising at 45 and have a little more pep on the accel

If you have it tuned right you definately will be. I can easily cruise at 43mph with mine and on good days I can get into the high 40's. When it's running good I can get the needle straight at the 3:00 position right where your red/orange MPH should be (or KM/hr). I hate to confess this but when I installed my cam I didn't replace the headgasket cuz I forgot to order one. Rather I just put some gasket sealer on there and hoped it would all work out. Sadly it hasn't really ever been working out and I've been losing coolant and oil slowly. My coolant has been getting a bit of oil in it but the oil isn't getting coolant in it. If I fill my oil 3/4 of the way up the hash marks it's down to about 1/2 way up after 1000miles. It's not awful but it does actually drip out the bottom of the engine and hits the sidewall of the rear tire. My scoot even 'diesels' a bit when I shut it off because the headgasket is sucking so badly.
I really feel bad about this and it really frustrated me because I dream about having such a cool Ruckus that runs so nice but I can barely keep it running ok because I'm putting so many miles on it I just don't have time to tear the engine out and change the gasket. I also need to open up the final drive because the bearings have been sucking in there for a while and lately have really been bad. When people say there rear wheel wobbles I think it's because the bearings are loose, not because the rim is bent. I thought my rim was bent but when Wainair gave me his which were basically new the wobble exactly the same. There's also a bit of whirring noise coming from there at speeds over 40mph so I usually don't cruise above 40mph unless I'm in a hurry.
Regardless things should get better as long as I haven't wrecked my head. This weekend I'm 100% for sure replacing that headgasket (I already have the new one) and I'm gonna open up the final drive and see what needs to be done. Doctavious said his thrust washers were gone so perhaps that it. It'll be nice to put everything back together knowing the torque specs for everything and finally doing it right.
Right now I'm working a 4 month Co-op job in Toronto with Environment Canada and I'm driving my scoot everywhere but the plan is just to get it running properly and save lots of money because I'm hoping this winter I can drive my parents car so that I can really get my dream Ruckus built. I've got so many ideas but so little time. I'm thinking now I'm gonna paint it black cherry and and call it the 'Cherry Blaster' (like after the candy). I do wanna get my lowered seat and racing brace first though so they are all painted together
Chanito: What are you waiting for before you get the H.O. cam? Are you trying to make enough $$$ on your parts to pay for it or is there another reason? I really think you'd be a big fan. It's not revolutionary but it definately adds top end power.

and is a good idea to clean the screen every other oil change I was a little nervous about this one because the Service Manual says to replace the O-ring. I don't have any O-rings handy, so I wasn't sure if I REALLY had to replace it or not, and if I did, how big is it and where might I get a new one? I tell ya, it really sucks to live around here. Finding metric stuff is next to impossible. TBH, I'd like to just go online somewhere are order the parts I need. I'd like to order a couple of sealing washers for the oil drain plug, and a couple of O-rings for the oil screen... you know, just to have on hand for the future, but where to go? Can I just ask my dealer for these? What kind of price is fair? h*r

The dealer prices are usually ok. For small stuff ie. O-rings and bolts etc they are bit much might be 2-3$ for a bolt or an 0-ring but for bigger stuff ie. a new piston it's pretty fair. The prices aren't bad considering they are willing to put a 2$ order in and they'll ship you one bolt.

I'm an east coaster, too...
And while my temps don't get too cold, i'm sure it's colder here in the middle of NC than it is in Chanito-ami.
