I am looking to buy a 2006 Ruck, When I test drove it, it died after 1/2 mile. Now it idles, but dies when given throttle. Any bullet proof answers?

I'm having the same problem. I just bought a used 2009 Ruckus and it starts fine and runs well for a little while but then it's like my power is being rapidly drained. My head lights start to dim, dash lights dim, then the engine dies and all lights go out. I simply apply the brake and push the electric start and it fires up. I have only put about 20 miles on it so far. I plan on changing the oil, spark plug and maybe putting in a new air filter this weekend. I had to hook the battery up to a trickle charger when I first got it b/c the previous owner didn't use the Ruckus very often and it drained. Hopefully the basic maintenance fixes my issue.

The first posters problem sounds like a clogged or partially clogged main jet. With this problem, the scoot will start and idle fine because the main jet is closed anyways at idle. Then when the throttle is twisted open the scooter gets a rush of air, but no extra gas to match because the jet it clogged so it dies.
Waldo, I would start with the tune up as you are planning. Is it dying when you are giving it throttle? Or does it just slowly die at idle? It could be that when the auto-choke shuts off after a minute or two then the scooter isn't getting enough gas anymore and it dies. You might want to look at your idle mix.

It does die when I start on the throttle. Generally it dies before I even achieve any kind of momentum. The engine dies but doesn't sputter or anything and my power/lights die also. The weird thing is that the electric start works just fine. It seems that if the problem was battery related, Id have to kick start her.
Hypothetically if it is a clogged main jet, how do I fix that? When you say main jet are you referring to the fuel line? Sorry for my ignorance, I'm a noob.

Mr. Dan...I just misread you post and replied to advice given to someone else. My bad. My ruckus died the other day while idling. I was a stop light at a very busy intersection. Lots of people are admiring the Ruckus while waiting for the light to change. Once the light finally went green and I gradually opened up the throttle she died on me. Those are the circumstances I want to avoid. I quickly hit the brakes and pushed the electric start and she fired up and off we went but I want to fix this odd problem. Scenario 2: The other evening I was exploring a bike path in the woods on my Ruckus and I had a nice bright head light and good power going in. There was a bit of snow on the path at spots so I was going slow. A couple minutes in, my head light started getting dim and went from a nice white bright light so a weak brownish color and then 20 seconds later or so all power was gone. I sat there for 10 seconds "edit profanity" and then hit the start button and she fired up. I opened the throttle pretty wide and headed home. Its about 40 degrees or so here and I let my Ruckus idle for a solid 5 to 10 minutes before I embark on any trips. I'm got no clue at this point.

Im having the same EXACT issues as you...i took battery to autozone, they checked it and it was dead...went to walmart and got new battery and still seems to have some issues, especially w/low idol=dim headlights. If I give her gas gets BRIGHT...but will idle slowly.,lower and lower until it dies and will fire back up instantly.however I have been trying different things with idol screw to see if I can fix
