After a bit of reading recently, I found that Diesel engine oils (like Shell Rotella) were consistently the most recommended oils for their higher amounts of ZDDP.
I'm thinking it'd be a good idea for a ruck engine since it's a got a lot of mechanical contact versus a modern engine with journal bearings and roller rockers.

I use 10w40 Amsoil Motorcycle oil which is a full synthetic. By using a motorcycle oil instead of a car oil you get a few benefits like more rust inhibitors to prevent internal engine rust when the scooter is stored for long periods. They also are designed to handle higher RPMs, compression ratios, horsepower density and engine temperatures than car oils. It's not a huge deal but I do prefer a motorcycle oil over a car oil even though the Ruckus does not have a wet clutch. Here's some interesting reading if you are geek about these sort of things: www.amsoil.com/lit/g2156.pdf

That would be okay. It's a bit of a thin weight for hotter temperatures but good for average temps and cool temps. A synthetic blend is better than dino oil, but not as good as full synthetic. How much that matters depends on how often you change your oil. A synth blend will do just fine as long as you're reasonable with your oil change intervals.

I went to a Honda dealer today to buy some oil. I have never changed the oil myself but I'm going to try it. he sold me Motul 7100 10w40 4t synthetic oil. it was $12.99 a quart. Is this stuff ok in your expert opinions? i have 1350 miles on my 09. 1st service was done around 650 miles at the dealer. I also bought a new washer (12mm) which i hope is the right one. Do i need to clean out the oil screen as this may be a bit complicated for me. Is there a video somewhere on how to do this/
thanks in advance

The jury is still out, because the screen does not get dirty as the mesh is big, a good idea is to clean it every other oil change, but from my experience doing it every 5 oil changes is more than enough, just be careful as the cover is very soft aluminum and over-torquing it can break it real easy
