persistent top speed miss

2003 ruk with 3600 miles

top speed was 31/now 36 after ther following:

changed :
rollers/belt)honda belt-6gm met rollers)
oil/air filter
spark plug (properly gapped)

tires at 28 psi frt and rear/oil breather tube emptied

axles r ok

scoot starts/idles fine/runs well to top speed---at top sped feels like wants to go another 2-3 mph but developes what feels like an ignition miss..no backfiring..just a sensatgion of "missing"

36 mph on flats..20 lb rider/no wind/75F/no windshield

suggestions re- causes/solution.

is 36 mph ok top speed for an '03?

have not checked valve gaps or removed carb-have run "seafoam" thru gas with no benefit.

did change fuel filter alo--no change.

You are hitting the rev limiter, the easiest solution is to shave the spacer, there is a thread about it on the performance modifications

good thought--but--when i ran scooter down a steep hill it managed to get to 43 mph before beginning to backfire--which makes me wonder if im hitting rev l at 36--or--at 43??

no backfire at 36--just a skipping/missfire feeling..
