Anyone ever try putting studs on winter tires for the ruckus? I've heard of guys putting 13mm auto studs on larger bikes for winter riding. Might need a pretty thick knobby tire. Anyone have any opinions on doing this. Thanks. mywebpages.comcast.net/dyscofool/mods/studs.html

Small sheet metal screws is what my ATV freinds use for running on the ice.

I ran carpeting tacks through an RC truck's tires to run it on ice. It's not relevant to the conversation, I was just reminiscing about having ice and snow to play in...

I'm really kicking myself for not snapping a few pics when my buddy had the Duro HF910 (knobbies) on his Ruck. They looked so mean in real life...

What would happen if you had 120's on both front and rear?

Well the front is already a 120/90 so it wouldn't change anything up there....putting a 120/90 on the rear would: - Gear you lower so you have better acceleration but a slight loss in top speed (probably) - Give you a smaller (wimpier?) looking rear end - Give you more clearance between the tire and the stuff around it (nice if you want to run a fat shock or whatever).

Try pix of Chanito's Katrina, he runs them. And I think Dan had them on the Lorax, you might check that thread.

It looks like I am going to finally get my Scoot this weekend (please, please). The Ruck will have around 3000 miles on it. It still has the original tires on it. Are there some tips on when to replace the tires?
thanks

You should be fine for a while...I think I replaced mine around 10,000 miles. Your rear tire will wear a lot faster than the front because that is where all the weight is....you might need to replace it as soon as 6k miles.

Ok so would 130/70-10 fit both the frount and back, because the 70 just means its a lower profile, right?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Im thinking of geting the Kenda K413 tires, and I want them to be lower profile. Here is the link tell me what you think and if that tire size will fit the frount and the back. www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/32/404/5923/ITEM/Kenda-K413-Front-Rear-Scooter-Tire.aspx

That's a bad idea! The '70' number indeed means they are lower profile but more specifically, it means that they are 70% of the first number tall. So the stock tires are 117mm tall (90% x 130mm) and if you tossed on these 130/70's then your tires would be 91mm tall (70% x 130mm). Your tires would be lower profile but your wheel size would be dramatically reduced so your Ruckus would look silly and it would totally mess up your gearing. You'd redline at 30-35mph.
If you go with lower profile tires then you need to also increase your rim size so that the actual wheel diameter remains similar. Accordingly, 130/70-12 would be a good tire choice but it's difficult to find 12" rims for the Ruckus.

ok I see, but if you got bigger rims you could do it and it would probly look good and handy better, because there is less ruber to fold over at high speeds, Kinda like putting 17 inch rims on a honda, civic, or accord. But thanks, im not getting tires for like a couple months cause my stock tires are still good, But have you ever seen a ruckus with big rims and low profile tire, I think it would look soo cool, Although I still love the 4X4 look it has with the stock tires................anyone have pictures with a big wheel and a small tire on a ruckus?,,,,,,,,,,,,chris, thanks for the info Dan

Yeah 12" or 13" rims would be awesome. It's possible that you could grab some from another scooter (i.e. Aprilia SR50) and modify your front and/or rear end to get this rims on. Getting the front rim on wouldn't be that hard but the rear rim would be hard because the Ruckus axle is pretty unique and you'd also need to match the drum brake diameter. It'd probably be easier just to swap the whole engine/swingarm in. Alternatively, there where some 12" rims sold for the Ruckus but I believe they've been discontinued now....well atleast the hubs have been discontinued that you need to mount them. And yes 12" rims with low profile tires does look sick. I would have done it with my last Ruckus but I didn't really like the looks of the 12" rims that where available...I'm more of a traditional 5 or 6 spoke rim kinda guy. Here's a look:
