well.. today was in the 70s.. so my wife and i decided to load up the scooters and drive up to the parkway so i could teach her how to ride safely.. i took some pics of our backyard so to speak..
i bought some cheap BMX pegs and put them on this morning before we left.. they were PERFECT.. much better for me since i am very tall 6'4".
the ruckus does fine on the parkway.. i mean up hills it slows to 25mph.. but downhill i had it over 40mph.. i have some video but i have to edit it down.. some of it was choppy.. i will try to do it in the next few days.. in the meantime.. let me know what you think of my photos..
this first image.. is one of my fav spots on the Blue Ridge Parkway..
used to be a dead tree here and it is shown in all my photos.. some of which were included on a published calendar once.. but last fall a storm knocked it down.. RIP old tree.. i think some of these photos could end up on another published calendar dont you think?
same area.. different view
same area.. damn i really miss that old tree.. it was spooky looking.
my wife.. my son.. and i had a picnic.. then i rode around the parking lot for some photo ops..
did some Wan-type photos..
took this next shot to show how much of a drop it is and no guard rail lol.. i have been on the parkway in full snow storm and went by the same area.. SLOWLY... it is so beautiful on the parkway..
this overlook from the parkway.. i live down in the valley below.. i see these same views on a daily basis.. we take the parkway to goto walmart.
Crabtree Meadows is a campground that we camp at all the time.. it doesnt have showers or warm water for you wusses.. but tent camping here is great. there is a hike to Crabtree Falls that takes about 30 mins to hike to.. it is very quiet here.. only thing you hear is when a car or motorcycle goes by.. i got a bunch of waves today lol.. i was proud of my lil ruckus..
these last shots were taken in front of the Crabtree Meadows store.. it is closed of course until end of April.. so leaves are usually pilled up here from the fall storms.. i thought the reflection from the glass made a sweet photo op..
and of course.. last weekend we had 6" of snow.. the parkway has been closed all week.. this morning i called the hotline to see if it was open and it said it was still closed.. so around noon we said screw it and loaded up the scooters on my trailer and went up there anyways.. and guess what.. it was open.. saw a bunch of motorcycles on the parkway today.. so here is some snow still left next to our picnic spot.. of course i had to sign in it right? no its not piss either lol
so.. maybe next year.. have you guys up to my backyard for a meet and ride... we are right smack in the middle of North Caroling Mountains.. its about 1-2 hour drive to just about every scenic area and tourist spot.. thats why we love it here.. our next trip when my wife gets more comfortable will be up to Mt. Mitchell.. it is in the background of those pics above where the sign reads "Three Knob Overlook".. the mountain range in the background is the Black Mountains.. Mt. Mitchell is the tallest mountain east of the Rockies..
