I just got a new job that's 9 miles from my apartment. I had been commuting only 2 miles to the train station previously.
Now, I'll be using the ruckus straight through the winter.
I'm buying the chanito windscreen and probably a new shock. is there anything else I should get for my new cold commute?

Maybe a sparkplug geared for cold weather riding. Also, I'm sure you have already done this, but some nice snowboarding gloves for your hands and some waterproof pants to fit over your trousers.

Considering how people drive here in Fairfield County, I would wear a reflective vest and put some 3M tape on your helmet too so they see you at night on your way home. It may seem lame, but at night around here you can't be too careful.
Also (and not a joke), make sure you have sufficient insurance in case some uninsured idiot hits you.
Is your work parking covered? If not, maybe get a cover. Is it monitored? If not, get a better lock.
I have the Chanito windscreen and recommend it. It really helps keep you warmer in winter and adds a little bit to your top speed as well. Besides, I think it looks good too.

I ride straight thru winter, but here in south Florida that is not as hard as for you guys, riding in those freezing low 70s does not seem that bad

Now, don't rub those temperatures in.
You got lucky this hurricane season. But, keep it up and we northerners will be wishing another Katrina on you (and I don't mean the scooter kind).

i just bought some snowboarding gloves.
I also need to get a heavy coat. Being that my ride to the train station had only been 2 miles, my thinner work coat was used regularly. I'm going to need something a bit heavier.
BR, I have a liner jacket that i wear over my work jacket that's made with Illuminite. during the day, it looks black. at night, it shines bright white! pretty cheap too. its actually a running jacket.

I got snowpants from Wally World, I wear them with boots and a parka to stay nice and toasty. I've ridden my BR down to Norwalk before. I have a friend that lives way up behind a strip mall with a major supermarket off of Rt 7.

Rode the 250s all weekend, had a ball. Saturday we rode the mountains and Lynchburg area here....about 140 miles. Sunday we went up Keith Springs Mtn. in Tn, then down into Paint Rock Valley, Alabama. Found a neat little country store in a little town called Woodville. Took "old" highway 35 into Huntsville and climbed to the top of Mont Sano Mtn. Found a great "little used" 2-lane on the backside to come down on. Very twisty with posted speeds of 20 to 30 mph. No less than 4 posted 10 mph curves (they're not joking). Rode a total of 205 miles Sunday. Never had any rain neither day and temps stayed in the 65- 69 F range. Rain and western cold front are suppossed to get here today. Should have done some things around the house all weekend, but I have my PRIORITIES straight..............................

Yeah, this isn't season isn't winter, it's "wunmer". It ain't cold, and usually, everyday, you can go for at least "one more" ride.
