So Dan, when you asked the wife out, did you ask her to take a ride on your Vespa, and tell her that you'd take her home. And ride up to her window and read her a poem?
Say, when you gonna have an animated gif of the Beluga?

umm....on hind sight I certainly should of but I hadn't discovered scooters yet at that young age so my wife to be had to make due with a crappy late 90's Cavalier.
About the animated gif....perhaps I'll make one but I'm thinking that shortly I'm going to change my avatar to a picture of the Lorax 3.0....it's essentially a huge box crammed full of Ruckus parts with Lorax 3.0 stenciled on the side.

Thanks...I'm hoping for at least 50mph...my Beluga went close to 40mph once I had it fixed up but 2 years after my scooter was made Yamaha revised the engine for more speed via a better cylinder design, new exhaust, 16mm carb (instead of 13mm) and a better reed cage. Those revised Beluga's did 45-50mph and I've retrofitted all of those improved parts except I went even bigger with a 21mm carb (which should be ideal for an 80cc 2-stroke according to an equation in the 2-stroke tuners handbook I've been reading) and I went with this Tecnigas RS exhaust instead of the stock one which should also be a big improvement. I would really like to be able to cruise at 50+ mph but I would be okay as long as it does 45mph or better. Ideally I'd like to see 55-60mph but that would exceed the speed this scooter is geared for so I hope I have that kind of power so I can cruise at 50mph and still have some power left over for hills etc.

Getting that exhaust on there has/will be a pain....today I removed the flange from the exhaust and removed the flange from my stock exhaust and mated the two together with a bit of JB weld so I could mock it up as shown. Next I'm going to take it into a local welding shop to get the flange permanently mig welded on there and I'm also going to cut/bend/drill the mounting bracket so I can connect the expansion chamber to the crankcase. I'm hoping to have that done within the week. Here are some pictures from today: Unuseable flange on the Tecnigas Exhaust: Removed that with my angle grinder: Test fitting the flange I cut off the stock exhaust: Cutting open the stock exhaust for kicks: A look at the underside of the scooter with the new flange temporarily epoxied to the exhaust:

My buddy came over today with my exhaust all welded up! I bolted it to the cylinder and support the rest of it with a tie strap and after a few minutes of kickstarting it came alive! I only let it run for a second because it was in my apartment but it sure was exciting All I need to do now is modify the bracket so I can support the muffler and then I need to get the throttle cable hooked up and it's rejetting time! I'm hoping to have it running okay before the Christmas holidays are over. I'll post some pics soon....I've done a lot lately including some radical port work with my Dremel.

The bracket is now modified and the exhaust is bolted on! I still need to get the throttle cable connected but that's it and then it's rejetting time. I'm hoping to have some time Thursday to fire it up and let it idle/run for a bit to to see how it sounds now that the exhaust is bolted on.

Here is a VIDEO of the Beluga running...you can get an idea of what my pipe sounds like but the sound quality on Youtube is pretty sketchy so it sounds a lot more 'tin can-ish' then it really does. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRzJ-O946dc

I've been working like crazy on this scooter but it always seems like there's one more thing to fix. I now have the side body panels cut out to clear the new exhaust and a ton of other stuff done. I am having a problem with my new carb though. I couldn't get my scooter started the other day and then I took the exhaust off and discovered it was full of gas....like a good cup of gas poured out of the exhaust onto my carpet (my wife wasn't thrilled). My carb was flooding before but I thought I'd fixed it. I guess what's happening is that fuel is getting past the float valve slowing so when the scooter is just sitting there it's continually flooding slowly. I'm going to go tear the carb apart again now and see if I can fix it. In the mean time I've just been shutting the manual petcock but that's not a great long term solution. The weather is too crappy for a test ride here anyways now.

I think I solved the flooding problem yesterday. I did a little bending to the carb float and it seems to be working properly now. I'm now 100% ready to take this scooter out for a test ride...I can't think of a single thing to work on. Hopefully all that's left is some easy rejetting. I just wanna be back scootin!
