Oh crap! I didn't know that drawing still existed... That drag racing stance didn't come out so good... About the Beluga...I finally got it started tonight It seems there wasn't really anything wrong with it...it just needed a battery cuz someone took the old one out and then it needed a carb cleaning and a lot of kickstarting. I tried to clean the foam airfilter but it was pretty thin and old so it dissentagrated when I tried to clean it. Hopefully when I buy a new filter (and a new spark plug) it'll run a little better because right now it only does about 20mph. It runs but not very good...it requires probably 10 kicks to get it going and then it dies if you don't work the throttle just right. Other than getting it running better, I also need to toss new brake cables on it and get the horn working and blinkers blinking and a few other things.

No one else is excited that I got the Beluga running? I gotta say, the riding position of this scooter sure is fun. The bars are really close to your chest so it sits you upright with perfect posture...it's cool. I got a new plug for it and I ordered the new airfilter and brake lines so hopefully it'll be purring soon.
In other non-Ruckus scooter news, another local Ruckster who was on the Go Go Boys for the Mad Bastard Rally picked up an old Elite 150...it needs some work but it sure it cool. The thing I love about it most is that it has this miniture hood. The front of this scooter is sloped forward like a spaceship and then there's this tiny hood that's maybe 1 foot by 1 foot that even has a tiny arm to hold it open. All that's under the hood is the rad and the battery I think. It's so dainty!

I have been following your progress with the Beluga and I am really glad that you finally have it running. i almost bought that one myself but instead I bought the Elite 150 that Donny is working on. I can't wait to get it on the road. I would love to see a picture of the Beluga running and hopefully looking a little better than it did originally..

Are you the 'friend of Donny's wife' that he said it's for? That's cool that you're getting that Elite 150...I saw it Tuesday when I swung by Donny's garage to drop off some stuff. I love the little miniature hood on the front. It's so cute!
That Elite is going to be a nice scooter once it's in tip top form. You should be able to cruise at atleast 100km/hr and it looks super comfy and cool.
I'll take some pics soon. I just picked up new brake cables for it an hour ago and I'm going to put them in this evening and hopefully get the engine tuned up a little better.

Yes I am the fried of Donny's wife. I am really looking forward to getting the Elite on the road and am going to Kitchener tomorrow to pick up some parts for it. I have a lot to learn about the mechanics of the scooter but I am looking forward to learning. I also love the front hood and the fact that it has such a large gas tank. Donny's wife hates it when I come up and we get talking about scooter things. I plan on taking it to the next MBR in 2 years time. Hopefully 800 km won't be too bad on it.
I look forward to seeing new pictures of the Beluga. I know there were a lot of issues with it and I am glad that I decided to go with the Elite.

The Elite 150 will ride like a couch....800kms will no problem as long as it's running good. That'll be great to have you at the next MBSR...it was an amazing time even though I didn't have a legit entry.
Well I'm off to work on the Beluga...maybe I'll snap some new pics although it doesn't look that different.

I got the new brake cables installed last night. I'm not sure if the rear cable was actually siezed like I thought it was because after I'd removed it and thrown it away, I discovered that the drum brake arm was completely siezed so that may have been the only issue. Anyways I removed the wheel and eventually was able to work enough lube into the drum arm to get it sliding alright again so now the rear brake works okay but it really could use some new shoes. I got the front brake cable installed too but again, I need new shoes. I also tossed in the new spark plug but it still runs terribly...it stalls at anything less than full throttle and only gets up to about 25mph...I did hit 35mph down a big hill though One thing I noticed when I removed the rear wheel is that the exhaust has a massive dent in the header. It probably cuts off atleast 1/2 the flow so that's obviously not ideal. I'll keep an eye on eBay and hopefully pick up a used pipe. In order to get the engine running better I'm hoping that fully draining the gas is going to help because when I drained the old gas I didn't get all of it because the drain hole for the gas tank isn't right at the bottom if that makes sense. Right now I bet I've still got 10% gas that is a decade old. I'm going to remove the tank and fully drain it next time I work on this and then I'll load it up with fresh gas and toss in an airfilter.

mine had a problem similar to yours started today after I installed the spark plug I was going a max at about 15 and well I ran it back to the garage and I looked at everything and figured out that everything was in running order so I started tightening the sparkplug and it ran fine afterwards so try tightening it if you havn't already.

Do you own a Beluga (aka Riva 80) or you're just referring to your Ruckus?
Anyways, I believe I figured out why it's running so poorly. I'm sure the massive dent in the exhaust, the lack of an airfilter and the old gas mixed in with the new, are all contributing but the main reason why it's running poorly is.....(drum roll please!)......the slow jet is clogged!
My brother suggested this after I told him it would only run when I hold the throttle wide open. He said there was likely an issue with the slow jet so it doesn't get any gas when I don't hold the throttle open. The slow jet in this scooter is not like the Ruckus slow jet because it's way harder to unscrew. There is a tube that the slow jet slides down into and then once it's slid in, then it screws in. I can unscrew the slow jet but I can't slide it back out of the tube because there is too much friction on the walls of the tube. I also haven't been able to unclog it yet because it's too small for any pin to fit in the hole, I don't have an air compressor to blow it out and any wire that is small enough to fit is too weak to push the blockage out. I'm going to try soaking it in carb cleaner over night when I get a chance and hopefully that disolves this blockage.

I got the title for my Beluga yesterday. It was a big hassle because the previous registrant is deceased so I had to solumnly swear to a bunch of stuff. As it turns out, this scooter hasn't been on the road since 1988!!!

Tonight my wife is going 'out with the girls' so I've got a free evening to work on my Beluga. The slow jet has been soaking in brake cleaner since Friday (I'm out of carb cleaner) so hopefully the jet will be easy to clean out but I dunno...it was clogged pretty good. Anyone got any suggestions? I don't have access to compressed air so the closest I can do is spraying it with an aerosol can of something (ie. brake cleaner).
Other than that, I'm hopefully going to install new brake shoes and tires on it if those parts come in today and I'm going to replace the gear oil with some fresh stuff since I'm sure that's never been done.

Does your wife have one of those ultrasonic jewelry cleaners? That might work. What she don't know won't hurt her.
As for compressed air, you can buy a can of Dust-Off just about anywhere.

I actually have a can of dust off and I did try that with no luck...I was assuming that when people suggest compressed air they are referring to really pressurized air from one of those air compressior nossles that can basically tear through your skin. Now that it has been soaked over the weekend I'm going to give this another shot. I'm hopefully that as soon as I get this slow jet unplugged this scooter is going to start idling and perform way way better so I'm pumped to get it fixed tonight.
No my wife doesn't have one of those ultrasonic jewelery cleaners....I wish. I'd steal it in a heartbeat.
