The benefits of changing the stock filter to either gauze like the K&N or foam is not just power. The stock filter can't get wet, if yours got wet you need to replace it. If you go to gauze or foam they are not effected by water and can be cleaned. The stock filter from Honda is like $20 and it's not reusable.
The choice of gauze or foam is up to the rider. Foam is better for the dirt. The gauze will clog quickly offroad. I've seen gauze filters clog after 50miles at which point the engine would not run.
The gauze does have one benefit over foam. It flows better. On a bike that never sees dirt the gauze is hands down better.
I'm not being bias here this is just fact. ;D

Does anyone offer a gauze or foam insert that can be used in the stock air breather housing? Thanks

As far as I know the answer is no. Someone did tell me you can use a Briggs&Stratton filter from Walmart in the stock airbox. That's cool and like $2.00!
