Phred, I do all the stuff in my cage, too. And have had to actually do it in there, luckily haven't needed to get crazy on the Ruckus, but I try to keep my wits about me and stay a few steps ahead...
It's like chess... with your life...

Besides the "Tn will give anyone a drivers license" near misses, I also live in a critterville area. To make matters worse, we have 2 game preserves for deer hunting (overpopulated, un-fenced)...so Road Dodgem is an everyday sport....

assume all drivers are IDIOTS, and that should more or less be abouts rite,in how they treat people on scoots,
bus drivers are the worse by far in my opinion...

Yeah, it's best to just assume they are all going to be erratic and spiteful... just pretend all the cars are just large predators and you're a tasty snack... avoid the Noid! Wow, that made me feel old... I'm gonna hafta go read the average Ruckster age thread to feel young again... ZING!

Last Wed at 5 AM / dark, almost hit a deer on the wife's Ruck. Running about 38(04 model), saw a buck off to the right probably 20' from the road. The "skilled" automobile "driver" behind me thought honking at the deer would scare it away...worked, the scared buck we could see bolted into the woods just as the scared doe we couldn't see in the ditch bolted out in front of me with no warning. Braking hard while going into the left lane (45mph 4-lane), I ran diagonally parallel with the deer. By luck, lost enough speed that the deer cleared my LF before impact occurred. Could have touched the deer with my left hand except it was compressing the steel handlebar....SCARY / LUCKY....... ...never let your guard down !

Yeah, I always hafta keep an eye out for deer, and cows, and llamas.. and smaller animals, too.
Okay, I've never seen the llama escape, but it could... I have seen cows get out, though, and them black one's sure blend in with the night.

It amuses me.
Used to be a couple turkey's I would see regularly, but I guess they finally found their way into someone's belly.

Live out in the country with all narrow 2 lane rds. All the roads have huge rain drainage ditches so there are no shoulders to bail on. I try not to ride my scooter at night. Today full sun and here comes Bambi, I am doing about 45 (in a cage) I slow down and my passengers all decide we were safe and I said wait: then Bambi's cohort came down the bank. My experience around here is that the dummies seem to travel in family groups of 2 or 3. We sometimes have cows on the roads, they move slow and are usually easier to see. Be alert at all times is all you can do and always keep at least your fingertips on the brake levers. Riding is a lot of fun or we wouldn't be doing it, but always be a little bit afraid of everything around you. We have many hazards to be aware of, cages, animals and detritus on the roadway..Ride safe and keep the rubber side down.

AGREE.....the "2nd" deer is the one you usually make contact with.....can never be TOO alert or focused...we need an all year / any sex deer hunt badly in my area.....

That's why I usually chase the deer. The other deer is never where the one is going...

Interesting...since you said this, and I think about it, this seems to hold true more times than not. Will have to add this to the survival arsenal..... ;D

What's really fun is when the deer gets cornered between your car and a fence. I did feel bad for the bugger, maybe that'll convince her to keep away from cars... maybe.

Here in South Florida we have even more dangerous animals, i hate the people that decide to merge into traffic all of a sudden and after risking their life and your by doing such a stunt decided to frustrate you more by driving real slow

Yeah, why can you be the only thing coming (this is usually in my car, mind you) nothing behind you, and people hafta pull out in front of you, and then drive ten miles under the speed limit?! I also hate people that speed up in passing zones.
