...Zoomerman is spared.
I was zooming along at 60km on a dry 3-lane highway, when I approached an intersection with a green light. Then I heard the faint sound of an ambulance siren over the sound of wind over my ears. I then noticed all cars had stopped at this green light, uh oh, I don’t want to hit an ambulance, so I grabbed both brakes hard and stopped quickly. I looked up towards the ambulance, a split second later I heard tires screeching then boom! I was hit from behind. My Ruckus was launched into the intersection and I felt the grill of a Ford Crown Victoria on my "edit profanity". I was then launched on to the pavement and landed on my tailbone. In my haze I looked over at my scoot on its side, rear end smashed, dripping gas, ignition on. It was a sad sight. I then thought to myself “It sure is handy having an ambulance here”. I tried to get-up and was quickly told by the paramedics not to move. They said they watched me get hit and demanded that I let them help me. All I wanted to do was go to my scoot, turn off the ignition and stand it up.
I was loaded onto a stretcher with backboard and neck-brace then brought to the hospital. The emergency room was full and it looked like it would be a long wait. So after an hour of lying there, wearing a very uncomfortable neck brace, I sat up, shuffled to the end of the bed, stood up and stretched my back. All felt good so I removed the neck-brace, stretched my neck and told the head nurse I’ll be leaving now. I smiled a little when I saw all the shocked faces of all the people watching this display.
My poor ruckus is severely damaged, most likely a write-off. Many parts are broken or bent: fender, airbox, muffler, muffler guard, drive cover, tail light, left mirror. And I noticed today the rear frame is bent up from the hit. Funny though, it started right up, though now it’s burning oil for some reason. Also the rear wheel doesn’t spin as easily and looks a little crooked.
I will ride again, though I’ll be riding much more defensively. Things happen very quickly out there, that whole accident scene took place in a matter of 3 seconds. Always ride with 100% concentration. I was very lucky.
