you might be a fan of the flap but I was not, plus I live in so.cal. so here's my process 1"- 2 " masking tape, arc a line on the fender, unbolt it, saw a little below your tape line, then I used an orbital sander to clean up the cut to the tape, flat file a bevel, bolt it back on and your good to go. cheers von

Very Classy, I'm not a huge fan of the flap either. I was thinking about cutting it but I wanted to see someone else's first so thanks for posting pics. I was thinking of a bit more a pointy cut for my fender like on the CBR's.
How did you remove the Ruckus stickers? Mine are pretty scraped up so I wanna take them off and maybe leave it bare or put new ones on. Also did you repaint your Ruckus? It looks like more a matte black...I love it.

cbr style sounds cool, just play with tape until your satisfied then cut and sand away. on the ruckus stickers use a hair dryer or a heat gun, be careful not to bubble the paint, go slow and it's no problem. a little paint thinner takes the sticky goo off. and yes I shot my camo tank flat black. one less camo one stealth flat black. there is another paint pic in stock mods, camo ruckus. good luck with the fender. von

If I had of know that the camo Ruckus's came in flat black I would have got one and done exactly what you did. Since mine is the gloss black I'm planning on getting it painted at the same time I have my engine at Abe's for some work.

Well, inspired by your leadership, I too cut that bob off my rear fender. I am so pleased with how it turned out. I spent probably an hour just getting the line right and then from there it was easy. I had a hard time using the tape to draw the line cuz mine has a slight kinda 'S' wave on each side. I ended up just covering about 1/3 third of the fender in masking tape, then I drew the line on with pen and when I was happy with it I cuz the tape with a razor blade and pealed the bottom away. The result really looks classy, kinda like a long CBR fender. I integrated the right side of the cut into where the exhaust brace connects. I then filed a bevel and sanded it right up to 1500 grit. I wish I could post pics....

dandyman, you should really get some tape without curves, now you have to post an image of your fender, it sounds wicked.
why I said use tape is because it forms a natural arc on the fender. it's easier than trying to draw a line. just be careful when your cutting not to let the blade or the sander hit the fender. von

you should really get some tape without curves What is 'tape without curves'?? I was just using regular masking tape. My line was just really hard to follow with masking tape cuz it didn't match the natural curve like yours did.

I always just use a sharpie and freehand it. If you want tape to follow lines use electical tape. shapie dremel bastard file sand paper =OEM looking bobbed fender NICE ;D

Here is a much delayed pic of my fender job which I did back in March I think. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Sorry the bike is a bit dirty. P.S. Whoever can spot the problem with my Ruckus in this pic wins a lotta respect. You'll know you got it if you see it.

Man, that's nice! No way I'd guess that was hand made. Can you take the fender off without removing the wheel first? I also want to cut my front fender, so it looks something like this: www.tokyo-parts.co.jp/shop/user_custom/yamazaki_custom_zoomer/FrameSet.htmI don't think that is a cut-off stock fender, but the base do look very much the same. (I don't think that's what you were looking for, but your coolant is brown.)

You can take the fender off w/o removing the wheel or exhaust. There is bolt on the top of the airbox, where the exhaust brace meets the fender and a third one at the front of the fender below the coolant reseviour. It takes 2min to get it off.
I also really like that front fender. I've been considering cutting my front fender too but I'm still in the mental planning stage.
Re. the problem: it's not the coolant although it does look brown. I put long life coolant in when I swapped the stock hoses for clear braided ones. The coolant is actually orange/red but it's not that vibrant so the dirty plastic reseviour makes it look brown in that pic. Hint: the problem is lower than the coolant reseviour and produces an annoying buzz.

A bolt holding the exhaust brace in place is missing?

ding! ding! ding! yeah I had the exhaust off and I'm not sure if I forgot to put it back on or if it rattled out. I'm pretty sure I put it in but I can't see it vibrating all the way out either. It's not really a big issue cuz there's another bolt a bit lower down on the brace but at certain speeds it produces an annoying vibration that sounds like my motor is going. I was concerned until I discovered I could stop it by pushing the gap shut.
(I think you're talking about the bolt for the brace where it mounts near the rad, not the one chuck posted right? The spot is 1/2 way up on the right edge of the photo)

Yeah, first I thought your oil stick was the problem because it looked out of line with the brace. Took a while to see the bolt missing. If it's not raining tomorrow I'm going to cut my fender too. Maybe like this. (No, not really.)

A bolt holding the exhaust brace in place is missing? My mistake, I thought this thread was about fender bobbing. Chuck
