hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and a new owner of a 2009 ruckus. My ruckus is acting up a bit. I would go start it but when the scooter is cold, the idle is very low. It will idle at the point where the lights are very dim and eventually turn off. I try to increase the idle by giving it some throttle but it turns off. I have to keep trying this for 5 or 6 times Eventually, the idle comes up to normal automatically and the scooter runs perfect after that. I noticed that when I cover the hole in the air box for that little while where the idle is low, the idle automatically goes up to normal. Not sure what that could be. Thanks for everyones help in advance.

Seems like your ruckus is running lean, the best way would be to adjust the idle mixture on the carb with a special tool, or get a set of idle jets and start swapping them until you get it right, I keep saying that investing on the carb tool is the best and easiest way to do it, but all the other experts will just tell you to swap jets

I will try to get the tool to adjust mixture. Do you have any idea where I can get the tool for that? Thanks for replying!

I am lucky that I make my living as a professional tech and a tool truck from MAC TOOLS comes to the shop, they sell "pro-motion" tools for motorcycle techs and they have a set of carb tools, you only need the "D" shaped one, so just buy that one, it should be around 10 dollars and can be used with any driver that accept 1/4 bits

Hey do you think that this could be because of the briggs air filter I installed on it. I know that it is supposed to be a high flow air filter so maybe that's the reason why it's doing that?

It could be, but more than likely is because they are mixing alcohol with gas, to help the corn farmers, and the alcohol is really bad for carbureted engines
