In my experience a knocking sound in an engine is never a good thing, let me know what you guys think.
I've got a 2009 Ruck that just turned over 5000kms.
Lately, upon cold-starting (hasn't been running in a few days) it will make a knocking sound until it warms up. Seems to run ok, although it stalls out sometimes at lights (been doing that for a long time).
Unfortunately my knowledge of the internal anatomy of my Ruck is not advanced enough to really figure out whats going on and I'm not sure where I can take it in my area (Mississauga, ON) as my local Honda dealer has provided me with less than stellar service in the past.
It's always had oil changes at regular intervals and I always use Amsoil and never overfill.
The battery has been sketchy at times (will have to kickstart from time to time) but I don't think that's related.
Any ideas guys?

Hard to tell but you might have a fuel pump problem or just a dirty fuel filter

hmm, maybe that would explain the intermittent issues I've had with stalling and intermittent rough idling... Thanks Chanito!

I'm going to order a replacement fuel pump and filter. I see from an internet search that this is not an uncommon problem and that the fuel pump has been the fix in numerous cases. I'll let you know how it works out!

I FINALLY found the cause of all my problems!!
Just to reiterate, since my Ruckus was new, I've been having so many problems with stalling, idling, and performance. I took it back to the dealer while it was under warranty. They just kept saying that the carb needed cleaning and that this was normal but when I got it back, any improvements were negligible. I have had problems with defective batteries that now seem to be behind me thank goodness and the knocking I heard was just the normal sound of the fuel pump. I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter to try and fix the stalling and performance issues but saw absolutely no difference.
Finally yesterday I took the bike into a carb specialist. He took the carb out and immediately noticed that someone had attempted to drill out the fuel mixture screw, but went way too far and drilled right into the carb. As elated as I was to finally know the reason why it's been running like crap since I bought it, I'm pretty disappointed that a dealer mechanic had made such a grievous error and not reported it. At least now I know that I don't have a lemon. I'll take some pics of the damage and post them later in case anyone else has issues like I did.

Wow! keep us informed, seems weird to me that someone would drill out the idle mixture screw but I found people do so many weird and unusual stuff, anyway good luck with your carb ;D

Could it be the quality of the fuel? Ethanol in gas don't help and I saw posts that say use high test gas and even put some Lucus fuel stabilizer in tank once in a while...... Orval.
