i tried the search function, but it doesn't seem to like me, or i don't know the proper keywords.
in any case, now that i've put nearly 1kmi on my new ruckus, part of me yearns for more power and speed, but refuses to give up the killer looks of a ruckus!
given proper maintenance, how long should the engine on my 2009 Ruckus last?
i'm thinking that if it comes down to it, a GY6 swap will fit my needs, but at the moment, not my wallet! if i had to decide between a rebuild and a new motor, i'd upgrade definitely.

I have done nothing to my engine except change a Spark Plug and Air Filter. It has 17,000 Km ( over 10,000 miles) . I need a new drive belt. I can't get any more than 2Km per Hr even downhill. I only use it to go back and forth to work.

My original Ruckus (which I no longer own) has over 50,000km (30,000 miles) and the only repairs to that (besides problems I caused) have been a number of crankshaft bearing replacements (about 4-5) which shouldn't be an issue with a well maintained 2006-present Ruckus as they addressed this problem for 2006. I'm hoping to get to 100,000km (60k miles) on my current Ruckus someday. Right now I'm only at ~7000km though. 2500km so far this summer since I bought it.

I just passed 2,600 miles right now. So far all is well. All I've done is oil changes and washed. I'm guessing that I'm getting to the point where a general tune up is needed. Speed wise, I top out at a little over 40mph. Downhill, about 45. Being 225lbs helps that though.
Any maintenance advice is helpful.

You still have some more miles before any mayor maintenance at 5k you should replace spark plug, fuel filter and oil and transmition fluid plus check drive belt for wear and replace if needed, valve gap check and adjusment if needed and thats about it

You can always find fresh used engines in classifieds too! Ppl will always be swapping to gy6's and selling there stock engines. They usually go for around 200$ I belive.

I have a 2005 Ruckus. I have used it primarily to go back and forth to work, one way about a 25 minute run in the city. At 18,000 I had a new belt, weights and variator installed, as well as a few other parts (front forks). I now have 24,000 on it and it still runs like a top. I change the oil every 3,000 kilometers and put only .5 liter of oil in. Because I never drive longer than a half hour at a time and use full synthetic oil, I feel this is OK and have done this since the warranty ran out about 15000 km ago. I have only changed the spark plug once and am going to do it again in the spring. I haven't changed the brake pads or done much else in the way of maintenance. Maintenance costs probably average out at about $65 per year. I can no longer park it at work for free, so am now taking the bus to work. I am close to retirement, hoping to go 4 more years to age 70, but that depends on my health. I loved the ride back and forth and the scooter has easily paid for itself. I intend to keep it for as long as it works.

I have a 2015 Ruckus and drive it everywhere daily and it's gotten 10,200+ miles on it and it runs like a champ. I have started noticing some noises such as you would hear on a high mileage car but it starts up no problem. I expect to have to do some rebuilding around the 15,000 mile mark but we shall see. I've priced new engines and they seem to run around $350, Not sure about bearing costs and whether I would need to have the valves done or not but That is to be expected. If and when I do rebuild I will replace all the bearings and gaskets to get another 15 thousand miles or more. The Ruckus will be 4 years old in September 2019 and I've not had any major issues. I like it.
