I was holding off posting this until I got it finished, but a post from Chanito, and a post in the GIVI top box install thread convinced me that I'm not the first to do a trailer. How about it, Chanito? Anyway, here's how I'm going about it.... I wanted to use available stuff, since I've got enough fabrication projects with my boat refit. I selected a Foldit trailer; as the name implies, it folds up for storage, is designed for marine use (all aluminum and stainless steel), and has an optional bicycle towing attachment. The hitch was adapted to the GIVI luggage rack Since the hitch arm was designed for a bicycle, it had to be long enough to go over the bikes rear wheel, and was too long for the Ruckus So I shortened it. It seems to work well. I've had it up to 30mph for a mile or so, it doesn't seem to affect the handling, we tested its carrying capacity with 3 5gal diesel fuel cans, about 115 lb, and there was no problem haulingthem across a grassy field and up the ramp onto the dock. The only problem is that my lab shows no interest in riding in the trailer, and that's what got me started!

Very cool trailer. Lol on your dog, too.

I'm curious about all this trailer business. Years ago, I posted a video of my Ruckus pulling a buddy of mine around in a shopping cart... just wouldn't imagine you'd want to tow too much weight, but I guess a bit over 100 lbs isn't too bad... Then again, the braking situation... GWalla.com/Ruckus/RuckusBuggy.wmv

It's a reasonable question. My interest stems from the use I intend to put the Ruckus to. Once the refit on my boat is completed, I will sell my van, and the ruck will be my only land transport., so I want to make it as versatile as possible. It will be a "land tender" , complementing my two water tenders - a Walker Bay sailing / rowing dink, and an Avon jet RIB for exploring, waterskiing, etc. On a cruising boat you end up hauling a lot of stuff when you're in port - food, spare parts, stuff to be taken and repaired.... and there's the dog, who doesn't like to be left behind. It seemed like a good idea, we'll see. If it doesn't turn out to be useful as a tailer, I can put the regular cart handle back on and just use it as a dock cart.

Good observation. As I commented in a post on the luggage rack, it's a temporary installation, to proove the concept. I intend to weld a piece of suitably sized pipe to one side of the Givi rack.
