When you insert the key into the ruckus you can either leave it off, on or in 'lock' mode. I read that lock mode locks your front wheel all the way to the left in the owners manual. Unfortunately I haven't been able to coax the ignition into lock mode. I've tried it with the wheel turned all the way left and i've pushed on the key etc. but with no luck. Perhaps its defective. If someone could post the proper method then i'll know if my is broken or not Thanks, Dan

The ignition switgh is not a Rugkus strong point. Sometimes I have trouble just getting the key in the switch. Locking the front end can be a little trickey. You have to push the key in, apply pressure downward, turn the bars to left slowly until you find "the spot" where the lock engages. Mine is not all the way to the left. Sometimes a little jiggle helps. frosty

That's okay. I didn't notice their was a trap door with the owners manual and screwdriver under the seat. The dealer stated he never received an owners manual and so I ordered one through Helm. After six months, I started reading and it pointed out the exact location under the seat. The original was there the whole time

The dealer took the owners manual out and showed me it and the screwdriver were there when I bought the bike. I can't wait to try the locking thing. My bike is outside and its dark so I will have to wait until tomorrow

My Ruckus came in a torn crate so my owners manual and the other Ruckus in the crate had wet pages. They came in a cardboard box in the crate and the whole thing was ruined. I wonder if they started putting them in the seat after??

Therefore, locking the steering as an anti theft measure would be futile. If I was going to steel one I'd just wrestle the little Ruckus in the back of my van and off I go! Know what I mean , Vern??

ive had to replace my ignition once already on my ruckus. It jammed on me after only a week of use. The dealer told me that its happened on nearly every ruckus and jazz he has sold.
It does make you look dumb trying to get the damn key in.
I notice that if I have the wheel turned all the way I can't lock it, I have to turn it 'almost' all the way for it to lock.

Everything helps. Your not stopping a scum crook, it's just slowing them down. Park in good places and use the helmet lock. If someone is carrying a scooter with a helmet on the side someone may take notice.
Can you guys park on the sidewalk in your town? It's a great visible place to park.

I think the fork lock is just one of a few options that can be used together to discourage theft. I work the night shift-I park my ruckus right at the front entrance where the security cameras are pointing at it-I lock the forks, and chain the bike to a cement bench-one lock through the tire-and a second through the body. A determined criminal will be able to steal anything-but the more security you use-the more you are likely to discouarge casual theft. No sense making it easy to roll away by NOT locking your forks. I have "theft" coverage on mine-but I would be heartbroken to have it stolen out from underneath me.
I thought the ignition problem was me-sometimes I have trouble getting the key in sometimes too-now I know its a likely design flaw-though I haven't found it to be too much of a problem beyond a minor annoyance.
Abe-great suggestion about using the helmet lock!

Thanks It sounds dumb but you know, every little thing you do. I wish it was safe and legal to fit an explosive device to prevent theft It would really cut down on this type of problem

yeah locking the steering in place is a huge theft deterent, alot of people who steal mopeds are usually just young punks who give up pretty easily at the first sign of hard work...just as abe said everything helps.

Abe, the explosive idea wouldn't be too good the first (and last) time you forgot it.

I knew there was a type of steering lock on cars, but didn't know about it on the Ruckus, until it was too late... It got stolen, it was locked on a steel pole with some cable and off it went one of these days. The police caught the perp and I now ahave it back (with 780$ of damages no less.. insurance covered ;D) Now, whenever I lock it, I lock the forks, put a bike lock (u-shaped) in the back wheel and use a 5/16" galvanized chain with a big assed lock! If someone wants to take a swing at it, be my guest! Putting an anti-personnel mine under the seat is a great idea, but it will unfortunately damage the scoot too much if someone touches it!!!

Perhaps you could make a fake seat that looks just the same but under the black vinal it would be bristeling with nails and razor blades.
