Heres what I found in my float bowl when I opened it up. Just short of 1500 miles. There was some that came out on my rag when I opened the carb drain, it lookede and felt like brown sugar, but rubbing it between my fingers caused it to crumble to moist dust. I'm assuming it is varnished gas, but I don't let the bike sit for more than a day (except I was gone the week of the 4th) gomi_

Whoa! That's a dirty carb...nice to hear you found the problem. Let us know what happens when you get that mess cleaned up.

So the first time I only cleaned out the float bowl- no change, still bogs and wants to die.
Removed it again, removed the jets and sprayed out the orifices, seats, and fuel inlet. Put it back together, today I rode to work again and zipped around the cemetary paths for a little while, It seems to be fixed, speeds are the same as they were before. I tightened up the throttle cable a little to eliminate some slop. gomi_

My MPG was a little lower this time, probably due to dumping all the fuel in the float bowl (twice!) Last time I filled up I was at exactly 100 miles and put 1.015 gallons in. That's gotta be pretty close. And I've got a lotta hills here in Seattle. gomi_
