41mm Piston + 970 Int. + Polini Var. + Cam + Yosh Ex. + Met gears + Posh CDI: 51/57
I'm going to try to take some video this week, it's not going to mean much until my Veypor comes in since my speedo is off up to 7mph on the top end due to the 90/90-10 front tire.

How long with these things last? I live out in the country and want to cut down on the milage on my car and save on gas. Will the ruckus hold up to a 30 mile each way comute twice a week?
??I guess what I am asking is has anyone racked up a desent amount of miles with out wasting the gas savings on repairs? Thanks all for yout time, this site is great.

If you don't hop curbs and keep up with regular maintenence, I don't see why not. I know several people put serious miles on their Ruckii.

My first Ruckus (which I sold to a friend) has +25,000 miles on it. Treat it nice and make sure you change the oil regularly and it should be good for a very long time.

Thanks guys, that was just what I needed to hear. I fill my lincoln continental the other day at a cost of $64.00. So I am going this weekend to get my 2008 Ruckus. Is the 2008 the best one? Or as good as the 2007 and lower? Thanks again guys.

Each year Ruckus is good, but '06 and newer models have a few things different that makes them run at a little faster top speed, and they run cleaner, so they should be more reliable in theory.

Good news guys!!! I just got back from picking up my brand new 2008 ruckus. And to top it all off, All I have to pay is 39 bucks a month. It pays for its self ever three times I ride it. How easy do I need to go on it to break it in and for how long. I know I need to change the oil about 50 times in the first 100 miles, but how does it really take to fully break it in to where I can feel good about taking it on a long ride, like to work??? (about 25 miles). Thanks again all, it is better then I thought it could even be

Just don't ride with the throttle in a constant position for 100 miles or so.

Thanks again all, it is better then I thought it could even be Congratulations, hope you enjoy your ride as much as we do ;D ;D Anyway here is a p;ost i got from my old FAQ thread -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What is the proper way to break-in an engine? Every one has its own way to break-in an engine, i have try a lot of different ways, some are better than others, but this is the one i think is the best, i used to built draggster engines and they break-in different, so forget all that my friend built race engines and he breaks them this way mambo jumbo, so i will explain MY WAY AND WHY I DO IT THIS WAY, rings when brand new are not perfectly round but oval shaped, also they relay on the gas pressure between the ring and the piston to seal against the cylinder wall, the spring tension alone is not enough, so they need to move freely in the groove and be perfectly round, that is what break-in is all about. First, stay away from synthetics during break-in Second, avoid short trips, that will not allow the engine to warm-up fully just ride your scooter normally and try to keep changing the engine speed, do some full throttle accelerations while riding (this sudden increase on engine speed will push the rings against the cylinder wall) this should help making those rings round, changing the engine speed will allow the rings to rotate slightly in their grooves keeping them free and allowing a new surface to ride against the cylinder wall keeping the wear even, riding it until it is fully warm up, will make the engine warm all over avoiding any cold spots which might cause problems later, so do not be afraid to go full out once in a while, actually do it regularly, just do not stay full blast for too long (like 5 minutes, good luck finding a place were you can do it for that long) and remember to keep changing the speed, which is what i find the hardest to do during break-in, if you follow this, you should be done with break-in at the 600 miles or 1k kilometers, but to stay on the safe side wait until your third oil change to switch to synthetic oil, so that is chanito break-in method

Thanks very much. I always thought that I should just take it easy on it. But it makes much more sense what you are saying. I have worked on cars my whole life, but never owned a brand new engine. Thanks again for the help. let me know if this sounds right...
4x20min ride. Oil change after each. oil changes at 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000 miles etc and then ever 500miles??? Does that sound like too much or too little?

Every one has a magic way to do it, for me too many oil changes are overkill (but i might be wrong), the way i do it is just start a new engine and run it until it gets to fully warm temp, about 5 minutes riding time, do a first oil change, this is to get rid of all the loose particles inside the engine left over from the casting, do a full inspection of the engine, looking for leaks or loose bolts, then just use your scooter for about 100 miles or 150 kms, and do a second oil change, this time to get rid of any stubborn particles left from the casting, and then just do regular oil changes at 600 miles or 1000 kms , if you are buying a new scooter from the crate, the first oil change is not necessary as the factory would have done an ultrasound cleaning already , but if you overhauled an engine that is the way i would do it

Ok guys I just took my first small ride. 15 miles. It was great.
Here is my big question. I have done two oil changes and on one of them used SL oil instead of SJ oil. What is the big difference and is that bad. Tomorrow I am going to go and pick up some of the right stuff; but I wanted to ride and none of the stores are open for the holiday. Thanks again.

Sl oil is just a newer oil done to a better specification, so no harm done and is actually better
