I put another bit at the end of the story and a new link with the crazy Müllers Have a look and laugh. I know itīs in German but even so youīll laugh. After reading the story with the canonball race I thought you may like my little story about another mad run. I never thought about the reactions from all the people who heard of the story. I am a Honda dealer here in the BlackForest which is roughly near Stuttgart since more then 12 years and never had so much response to an event we made (and the run was never planed as an event) Well when we got second in a 4 Hours Moped offroad race people laughed too and gave us their respect The little Zoomer story made it in several newspapers and even in one of your US magazines, on an motorcycle exhibition i had to reload the little thing and we had to tell about the trip. Even a local racing team had not so many listeners and many people came to our stall afterwards to get mor details. I do ride motorcycles my whole life but apard from a crossing on CX 500 C through Australia I had never so much fun as on the trip with the scooter. I seen most of Europe on two wheels, did twice Australia on two wheels, Did twice England and Scotland on a 50cc Zündapp Moped, 8 Elephant Winter Rallies and and and. To be honest I hated scooters till I had a bad accident on a Racebike. In hospital I thought and thought how I could ride with broken ribs and broken hand and i found out that Automatic scooters are the only bike I can ride, so I came to the scooter. Started with the Bali, then the Pantheon and when the Zoomer came out I fell in love with it. (on the second sight) Now you can read what followed and I hope the story will continue one day but I do promise nothing. Have fun Mike
Hello Iīm new in here. I think I have a funny story for you. My name is Mike and I live in Freudenstadt which is in the Black Forest in the South of Germany. Some friends and I usually drove the last two years to Englands War and peace show (they say itīs the worlds biggest military vehicle show) with an old 1944 US Jeep owned by my brother. This year the boys run out of money and so unfortunaly nobody joined in the plan to travel again. Well so I said "No worries mates so I take the Zoomer because it looks a bit like the American Cushmann used by the Parashooters" "Ha ha youīre mad !" was the reaction. Well soon after I suddenly got a bit frightened when I looked on the map and then on the little Zoomer, but my word is like Gold so I packed the little poor Zoomer with much more than it needed. Tent, Clothing, Tool (for what?), Food, Sleeping bag, Blanket, and other useless items. Well except the two spare jerry cans with together 10 Liters of spare petrol which I needed later because the French Filling stations donīt open till late and on weekends they often close too. Well the day X arrived and with all the laughter of my mates I placed a small cushion on the seat placed myself and off of I went. Bloody Hell the thing handled like riding on icy roads because it was totally overloaded. So I knew itīs never a good idea to put such a lot of luggage and driver with alone 95 Kilos on such a poor little thing. After the first 30 km I thought what a stupid idea to do and the little Zoomer was still very unstable with all the gear but I finally started to get used to it and of course I couldnīt turn back. Up the Black Forest Highstreet I felt a hot feeling. "Damn I forgot the papers for the bike on the kitchen table!" And also the papers for the red Dealers Numberplate. (I rode with a Dealers plate as I was to tied to buy an insurance plate and we had the Dealerplate in the shop anyway.) I had no idea if the French would accept the plate but life is a game and everything went fine. Even the weather on the first 250 km was brilliant and sunny. After I passed the French Border I was finally on the way. I stopped after 4,5 hours and two hundred km for the first time, (Saarbrugge)filled up 3,86 Liters of petrol and then I got lost the third time this day. Bloody motorways which I couldnīt use! Big problem without a proper map but Mick handled it and then I got lost in Luxembourg again. Big City! Up and down the Ardennes and then I crossed again the French Border. My keen plan was to do the first 450 km in one day, that was challenge enough, then stop and sleep somewhere on the road, put a blanket over me to avoid unloading the luggage and sleep near the bike. The next day set over in Calais to Dover and doing the rest. Well so far the plan. Well I had started on Wednesday in July around 12.00 Miday. And it was now 3 oīclock that night. I was really somewhere in the area behind Reims and so sick off big cities as I got lost all the time. The main reason was like I said because I was not allowed tio go on freeways and looked for alternative roads. Clever as I was I had a printed map from a route finder but the map didnīt help as only the big roads been on it. Oh I sweared like an old pirat I tell you. I was happy that I managed it up to here and then my petrol run out and so did my energy. So I decided itīs time for the break and looked for a shelter. As I couldnīt find something proper I just stopped near an Army base I reckon as there was a big fence around the area. I stopped and filled, for the last time today, with a torch in my mouth, my little Zoomer with my spare Canister I carried. In the distance I saw bad lightnings and heard thunder but i ignored it as I was so tired. "Pa I donīt care this doesnīt come in my direction!" I decided and took my blanket of my brave friend Zoomer then laid down on the ground and threw the blanket over me. Wrong decision: Heavens gate opend and poured so much rain as possible over me and thatīs ten minutes after I laid down under the blanket and just felt a bit cosey. I sweared even louder as this afternoon at the first motorway sign before I grabbed my gear and jumped on the Zoomer. Off I went. After a while I was soaked and stopped in a bus stop. There I tried for another 20 minutes to sleep but I was already to wet and could not sleep as the seat was to short and my bloody Rucksack which i used as a pillow dropped all the time. So I took off again and rode into the roaring night with wind thunder and lightning. Somewhen the bright light of the day came back, and there came the sign only 82 km left to Calais. Great, I thought and hit again one of them Highways I could not use with the little one. Well I found an alternative route and, well, near Dunkerque I found out Iīm lost again and nearly killed the poor man whom I asked where I am. So it took me 140 km to reach Calais In a car no problem but not on a little bike. Raining and cold. I was swearing again. In Calais it was better then and I booked the Ferry and went straight on the ferry and set over to England. On the ferry I felt into a deep sleep and was tired when I arrived in Great Britain. I was proud when I rode off the ferry and was happy everything went so good. After Felixstone I was so sick about the Freeways and so I took it brave as I am. You should have seen the face of the Harley rider whom stood beside his broken bike when I passed and then stopped and asked him if he had a problem. Well a Truck nearly run over me as it was still on the Freeway which I used illegal. We got his Harley going as I knew a bit about them bikes after riding for eight years Heritage Softail. Well it was only petrol which I offered him but he didnīt accept it first as he thought I must be mad. Then he took a few liters and then he followed me!!! a few miles then he waved and rode away after I couldnīt accept his invitation for a beer. Iīm an anti alcoholic and thatīs my whole live. Even after riding for many years the American big Twins. The War and Peace show is near Maidstone close to London. After a few more hours I finally made it there and booked in. The fellows I met couldnīt believe when I told them Iīm here with the scooter and did the whole Trip in 29 hours nearly non stop. 895 km in all!!!! one way. A Japanese bloke grapped quick his camera and told me very proud that he also rides such a Zoomer in Japan. Then I told him that Iīm here from Germany! Yes he took also some photos of me then. Maybe told at home he met a mad man. I must say that I did such a trip over twenty five years ago on a Zündapp KS 50 and my friend on his CB 50 (over 5000 km in three weeks) A year later I made nearly the same trip and that time a girl with a Yamaha Chappy was with me. But now Iīm 44 years old and getting grey but still Iīm mad and silly things come in my mind. A few years ago I did a final Elephant rally on a 125 Honda City Fly Over 550 km one way in snow and ice. Well on the English Show I decided that I will meet my brother on another show in France and a funny thought crossed my mind. How long would it take to reach there in time and not loosing to much time on this show here. I found out that I had to leave on Saturday at latest on 2 in the afternoon, ride the whole night and then I should make it in time. Well to shorten the story I started later on Sat at four that afternoon as I met another friend from Amsterdam just before I left and so I couldnīt leave earlier. This time I was very brave and took all the Freeways (well with fear in my neck) and full throttle laying down as low as I could. Little Zoomer went even up to the sign FI. I know itīs illegal but I was so sick from doing divertions all the time. One time as I justed passed a roundabout I saw three police cars and heahy armed police standing there to stop the traffic. Oh oh I thought now there is deep sh.... as Iīm on a Freeway. With my legs over the boards leaning backwards I started to smile (that the thing people do before they get crazy) and then I just waved to them and carried on. I couldnīt believe they waved back and smiled too! I made it to France after riding non stop and alone all through the night. Well apart from many rabbits and some hedgehogs which watched very interested this elephant on rollerskates whom rode singing through the night. At two oīclock in the morning I got lost again and was happy to find the old lady watering her flowers in the pitch dark night. Maybe she only got rid of her husband after destroying him in acid in her bathtub but however she was very friendly and showed me the right way again. I had t ogo back for over twenty Kilometers and yes I did swear loudly tht night ! At four oīclock in the morning it rained since one hour when my petrol run out and my trouser also got very wet. I stopped under a lantern in front of an old building and used the stop to change my wet trouser too. I said "Bonjour!" to the youngsters just leaving the disco on the other side of the road whom did laugh about me standing there in my underwear and still the helmet on my head. Mad Zoomer rider. Later on the sun raked the heavy and cold fog slowly disappeared and I felt better in my again wet trouser which slowly dried in the warm air. I stopped for a snapshot and releaved my neck from the helmet for a while as my neck was very sore. Not my backside as I used a cushion (Tribute to my age!). Of course I didnīt find my brother on the show in France as he was not there (My handy was flat so I didnīt know) So I grabbed a spicy French sausage and took on. Soon I reached the Rhine river where I got lost the last time and nearly ended up near Straßbourg. Then the last hill up the Black Forest highstreet and I reached back home. It was 4 oīclock in the afternoon. On the Road sign Freudenstadt I did a loud shout: F.... I made it and was very happy. Exactly 24 Hours ride (including ferry) non stop and 850 km more on the clock of the little scooter. How mad is that? 1750 km the whole trip. Everybody calls me now mad and I made it even in the local newspaper. Comment of an English friend: "Mad man you are crazy man!" No Iīm not an alcoholic who must ride a 50 cc bike!! I own a liscence and usually I ride big bikes but with the age the funny ideas come back Iīm now a pure fan of the little Zoomer. By the way like i said Iīm a Honda Dealer here in Town and I sell now the Zoomers with an high respect. It was brandnew when I started, 150 km on the clock and not a single problem even after riding them poor fellow very hard. Apart from the funny noise I had somewhere in France. I was very happy to find only a brench which stuck in my mainstand and scratched on the road. Now the sad part: A Friend heard the story of the trip and wanted to buy the scooter of me only because it made such a great trip. He is so proud of it that he created two stickers with the the letters Ge Be (GB) and stuck them on the side cover. Well itīs hard to sell such a good frienbd but I know he found a very nice home. I ordered straight the next one because my daughter will not allow me to ride hers. She fears I do to much km on it. Some Dates 1750 km The whole Trip Wednesday -Sunday 36 Liters of Petrol !!!!!!!!!! No oil !!!!! Usually 4.5 Hours ride between Tank and Pee Stops 1,5 Liters Coca Cola Light for the owner per Trip some greasy Brezels with Vegemite kept me awake. Lost Three Kilos of weight Again? I donīt think so but who knows. I said so after my first elephant rally on a 50 cc Bike and again I went there 8 more times Well I hope you like the story from the Black Forest Greetings to all Zoomer Fans If you ever in our area just stop and come in. There are some great roads I could you show. Mike PS I found now a way to let you see the photos Take the URL http://www.pixum.de/viewalbum/?id=2236148
Here are the next crazy thing the Müllers did. Not only I am crazy, the whole familiy is. So my brother took a 750 Zündapp from the Wehrmacht and build a wooden tub on the sidecar. Then we and a crew of other nuts rode down to the lake Bodensee and Austria for a charity ride to raise money for a hospital. Crazy I tell you. The story made it even in the news have a look under following link. Itīs in German but look the pictures itīs fun. In August there is a run in Holland so if my Zoomer comes in time (ordered a new one) I am thinking of going to another run. Itīs time Greetings and enjoy the movie I also try to put some more photos on pixum Mike
I let you know when I do my next crazy run with the Zoomer. A friend of mine had a horrible crash on one. He even got a free helicopter flight for that. Important thing the Zoomer is running again and restored. Greetings Mike http://www.swr.de/landesschau-bw/-/id=12....mtgl/index.html Have a laugh and tell me if you like it Mike

The numb hand is maybe a problem with the nerves in your hand. Donīt ask me how itīs called but I have the same after a while and teh doctor told me an operation helps. But Iīm a coward in this things so my hand will keep on beeing numb after a while. For the butt a cushion helps. Looks stupid but helps. When I rode my only super long trip of 525 kms (350 miles) after about 300 miles my throttle (which was already a bit sticky) started sticking open so I was able to take my hand off it it and relax. It probably has something to do with the really cold weather. I know have a throttle lock that I'll toss on for long rides like the up coming MB Rally.

Wow, 1750 km on 36 liters is 114.5 miles per gallon. That's amazing for such a long distance, since it sounds like you ran pretty much flat out whenever possible. I've read of many US Ruckus' getting 80-100mpg, is the Zoomer more fuel efficient because of the FI and O2 sensor to assure proper fuel metering?

It could also be due to the fact a stock Euro-spec Zoomer won't go as fast as a US or Canadian-spec Ruckus. Thoretically, at 20 mph, the Ruckus is supposed to get like 200 mpg or something. So over a hundred doesn't sound like such a stretch for only going 25-30ish...

Yeah our Ruckus is spec'd at getting 80km to the litre if you cruise at 30km/hr which works out to 188mpg at 20mph. The Euro Zoomer is restricted to 45km/hr (30mph) so it gets better milage than we do....and the fuel injection probably helps some too.

Iīm back from England again. Sad news I did it not on the Zoomer this year. How weak I know but I travelled with my daughter this time so we had to change transport. We travelled a bit more comfortable if you can say so when you use a 1944 Willyīs Jeep with damaged roof. We found out on the trip when water poured in everywhere. My daughter said only Dad you must have been more than a bit crazy to do such a trip on a Zoomer. Well I smiled and felt even a bit prouder. I must admit I was happy not using the Zoomer this time as there where floods and rain all the time and it would have been no fun riding in 30 cm deep mud on the field. Even the Jeep with four wheel drive had sometimes trouble and came sideways. We did the trip to GB in 1 and a half day and the way back in one day Again 900 km one way. Still a bit crazy but also funny driving through the night and seeing the sun slowly coming up. (well better the bright light than you could better see the bloody rain) Well all the best out there and keep the Zoomers running Greeting Mike

Flat out is right. Over here the Zoomer goes exactly 45 km/h even downhill and your ears close to the head. Honda is a bit overcarefully, so that may save petrol too. Mine was a bit tuned and the top speed was around 60 to 65 downhill but still very short in petrol. It amazed myself when I arrived in Sarrebruck after a bit over 200 km and filled in 3,6 liters of petrol. I knew my trip wuld not be so expensive then. And donīt forget the luggage. I think that little Zoomer ist great. Oh by the way a little funny story by the side. I sold my England scooter to a friend who wanted this special Zoomer and only this one who did the trip. He even ripped of all the Zoomer stickers and made himself two stickers with big letters GB. Last week he went shopping and an old lady tipped on his shoulder. May I ask you something? Do you own that scooter GB? Yes! Oh where did you get that one? My grandchild always seen an older man riding such a bike and we canīt find it anywhere. We searched the whole internet for a GB scooter but we only find a Honda Zoomer which is defintily not the same! My friend laughed nearly his head off and explained the old lady that his GB is the Zoomer!!!! The lady could not believe it and they both laughed. so maybe I can sell the poor child soon a GB Zoomer. Greetings Mike

great thread ! nice trip too,
if you do that trip again on a zoomer , tell me and we can meet up, as i live on the south coast.
you maybe the man to design a better seat for the zoomer .
glad you made it home ok,
some freeways ,or dual carriageways as we call them ,can be riden on by scooter, thats a 2 lane road. 3 lane roads called motorways are certainly out of bounds here.

Well to be honest the Jeep is a 1944 but the engine is a 1950 Mercedes Diesel. Over here most of the old Jeeps are converted to them engines as the petrol is so expensive and very few can afford it. But itīs old and a great car and makes lot of fun. Only the brakes could be better (specially when we srtarted with total worn out brakeshoes) Thatīs normal with a mechanicīs car d B Modell Quote:Mike, you'll never hear a bad word from me if you're in a Jeep. As the war and peace show is every year it may be possible that I start again. A good friend lives in Burgess Hill thatīs close to Brighton. Freeways are maybe ok to go but I tell you with the bloddy lorries it was an experience I tell you. France was better as I rode there in the middle of the night. Whe I helped out the Harley rider near Felixstone a lorry came very close and frightened us. But all the other time was good fun. If I come again on the scooter I let you know for sure See ya mate

yes it was an experience and Tracey had her first night under the stars as we didnīt use a tent on the trip. Only on the field we had a big Army tent but slept even worse as my brother snorred so loud that we nearly overheard the tanks starting their engines beside us in the morning R Quote:| Congrats on making the trip again...I'm sure it was an awesome bonding time with your daughter. |

Quote:As the war and peace show is every year it may be possible that I start again. If I come again on the scooter I let you know for sure See ya mate |
